You impressed us this year, Hollywood.
The first major awards red carpet of the year has come and gone and, we have to say, we were pleasantly surprised. At what can often be one of the more predictable events of the year fashion-wise, our favorite stars from film and television experimented with capital-F fashion designers and interesting shapes, fabrications and embellishments outside of the usual box of monochrome strapless gowns.
There was Billy Porter in his train of feathers by Alex Vinash, Cate Blanchett in her sculptural Mary Katrantzou gown, Gwyneth Paltrow in a ruffly, very sheer brown Fendi dress, Joey King in the incomparable Iris Van Herpen, and Kerry Washington and Greta Gerwig in NYC fashion darlings Altuzarra and Proenza Schouler, respectively.
It all goes to show, Hollywood stylists absolutely did not phone it in over the holidays, and we think this bodes well for the rest of awards season. See the best dressed stars from the 2020 Golden Globe Awards in the gallery below.
