It’s a wardrobe staple for a reason.
New York Fashion Week street style is something we look forward to every season, especially to identify what the trending pieces of the moment are (and get new ideas for how to wear them). On day one of shows, the first of these “it” items revealed itself, amid surprisingly balmy February weather: motorcore leather.
With heavy coats out of the question, folks opted for leather jackets, trenches and other pieces infused with that TikTok-approved sensibility. Even before the term “motorcore” was coined, leather was (and remains) a staple in New Yorkers’ wardrobes — a longtime symbol of coolness. And outside the Fall 2023 shows, we’re getting more and more inspiration for how to style it: oversized jacket with a tiny slip dress and strappy stilettos (in all black, of course), a contrast moto with knee-high Catwoman-esque boots, a neutral trench with a pop of hot pink or bright green in the form of a silk skirt underneath.
