What Buyers Are Buying From the Fall 2021 Runways

In other words: This is what we’ll be wearing post-pandemic.

Buyers are pretty much experts at navigating a remote fashion month, now going on their third season of seeing collections and planning their buys mostly digitally. This also means they’re on their third season of trying to predict what their shoppers will want to wear six months down the line. And, if all goes according to plan, their Fall 2021 buys will hit shelves as our lives return to some version of normalcy.

So what will we be wearing post-pandemic? Below, buyers and fashion directors from department store chain Saks Fifth Avenue, luxury e-commerce sites Ssense and Mytheresa, contemporary e-commerce site Shopbop and Charlotte, NC- and Los Angeles-based boutique Capitol share their picks.

Roopal Patel, SVP, Fashion Director at Saks Fifth Avenue

Chloé: “Chloé’s ‘puffcho’ was a standout style and a genius take on fusing the puffer coat with a poncho. Gabriela Hearst always brings focus to proportion and looks at things in an unexpected way.”

Tiffany Hsu, Fashion Buying Director at Mytheresa

Chloé: “I’m excited for everything to come for Chloé under the new direction of Gabriela Hearst. It was a great first show to set the tone of Gabi’s vision for the brand. It has a strong signature of the designer in terms of attitude and attention to detail, thus still keeping the Chloé DNA and representing a cool and easy woman. The knits and shearing were truly outstanding.”

Isabel Marant: “I always love a bold, strong-shoulder top. Whether it’s a puff-sleeve blouse or a structured blazer with shoulder pads, a strong shoulder screams ultimate powerhouse to me. I love this floral top from Isabel Marant with the voluminous shoulder and subtle knit detailing; this is a perfect transitional look from summer to fall.”

Gabriela Hearst: “Comfort dressing is not over post-pandemic…especially when it’s realized by Gabriela Hearst in this hand-crocheted blanket cloak. I’ll wear this inside, outside and everywhere in between.”
