These 6 Nail Colors Will Be Everywhere This Summer

What pairs perfectly with warm-weather staples like poolside ice cream cones or rooftop cocktails? A summery manicure, of course. This season’s trendiest nail colors are bright, cheerful and punchy.

“This summer, I predict that nail colors and designs will lean toward bold, vibrant shades and creative, abstract patterns,” says Jin Soon Choi, a runway nail artist with an eponymous nail-care brand and a chain of nail salons in New York City. “It’s all about embracing lively colors and simple, modern designs that are both fun and easy to achieve, making them perfect for the vibrant and carefree summer season.”

Reminiscent of a sunset melting across the sky, Choi’s summer polish picks consist of cheerful yellows, reddish-oranges and fuchsias. Tara Haye, a New York City-based freelance nail artist who has worked with brands like Rodarte and Tiffany Brown, concurs that bright colors — including trendy jelly finishes — will be on many manicure mood boards this summer.

But it isn’t all about neon-adjacent nails — subtler shades and sheer finishes are also having a moment. New York City-based nail artist Dawn Sterling is predicting an uptick in sheer whites, blushing pinks and pastels, which she describes as “chic, pretty, elevated and soft.”

Hot Orange-Red

In an opaque finish, hot orange-red nails are an eye-catching accent to any ensemble, but a translucent finish emulates the specifically summery hue of a refreshing Aperol spritz. “This bold and energetic color, especially in a translucent finish, is perfect for summer,” Choi says. “It’s a standout shade that can complement both casual and formal looks.”

“A subtle and sophisticated choice, sheer rose offers a natural look with a hint of color,” Choi tells Fashionista. “It’s perfect for those who prefer a more understated elegance.” For those still searching for that ideal balance between a rosy shade and transparent finish, Sterling reveals her hack for achieving the look every time: “I recommend creating sheer colors using your favorite [opaque polish]. You can add clear to any color to create the perfect sheer hue.”

Milky White

No, we’re not talking about Jack’s beloved cow from “Into The Woods.” This barely-there flush of white is a departure from the vibrant hues expected from summer manis, but it’s just as chic. The subtle — and buildable! — wash of (non) color keeps nails light and fresh, making them an ideal addition to any outfit. “Right now, me personally, I’m obsessed with the sheer white,” Sterling says. “So sheer that I mix it with clear myself to get another layer of sheerness.”
