Everything You Need to Have a 'Brat' Summer

Charli XCX has always been that artist. From her debut studio album “True Romance” to 2022’s “Crash,” she’s put out some of the most memorable hits of the last decade, whether on her own or by working with other stars. Her latest release, though, has sent the already-renowned British singer-songwriter into a whole new stratosphere that extends beyond music. As you surely already know, we’re well into “Brat” Summer.

After the release of the album’s first single, “Von Dutch” (plus an A.G. Cook remix featuring everyone’s favorite pop-girl freshman, Addison Rae), featuring lyrics like “It’s okay to just admit that you’re jealous of me” and “I’m just livin’ that life,” fans were locked into the confident, fierce and brutally honest mentality — and the bright-green color palette — of the “Brat” era. On top of the head-banging songs that make even the most devout homebody want to go out to the club, the 31-year-old’s latest also includes vulnerable tracks about her everyday insecurities and paranoia of being a woman, like “Sympathy is a knife” and “Girl, so confusing.” With each heart-wrenchingly relatable ballad and lighthearted upbeat party anthem, the album manages to make the highs and lows of life feel worth celebrating.

“Brat” has also ushered in a very specific style era for Charli XCX. With the help of longtime stylist Chris Horan, the artist has fully committed to the hyperpop nightclub “party girl” aesthetic, favoring brands like Balenciaga and Marni while embracing grungey mesh, “Matrix”-looking leather and oversized silhouettes. And listeners have eagerly embraced “Brat” green as a summer hue, inspired by the album cover. In fact, searches for “Charli XCX” on Depop were trending in June, up 212% month over month, according to the online reselling platform.

Whether you’re already in a “bumping that” mindset for the season or you need to “work it out on the remix” with somebody before September, there’s room for every type of person to have the perfect “Brat” girl summer. Keep scrolling to see our picks for neon-hued accessories, pieces from (and inspired by) Charli’s own “Brat” wardrobe and more.
