Zoom in on the Proenza Schouler Fall 2023 runway, and you’ll likely recognize some familiar elements across the new handbags for the season.
“We’re bringing back some of the codes of the PS1 bag,” Jack McCollough told press backstage after the brand’s latest New York Fashion Week show.
Specifically, he called attention to the handles of some of the larger calf and felt totes featured in the collection, which are reminiscent of those on the style that had fashion in a chokehold when it was first introduced in 2009 and remains a Proenza Schouler signature.

“Time for that to come back,” Hernandez announced, before explaining that this new riff on the PS1 revisits “that language in a way that feels modern.”
There’s also a soft bag that models carried in their hands on the Fall 2023 runway that McCollough described as “kind of a hybrid version of PS1 and PS11… We wanted to carry forward some of those ideas, too.”

“We had to take a little break,” he says, “but it’s back.”
If there’s one thing we know about the Proenza Schouler’s design duo, it’s that they know how to make an “it” bag. So I’d heed to their prediction.
