I had to try the long-sleeve boatneck made famous by Kendall Jenner.

In my opinion, the ultimate luxury in fashion is having clothes that fit you well. A long-sleeved shirt is an essential. You want one that’s comfortable, versatile and fits like a glove. Maybe that’s why Intimissimi’s $49 boatneck is getting so much hype on social media, with more than 90 million views on TikTok alone.
People have raved about how soft the shirts feel, the range of colors available and how the silhouette frames the collarbone. The craze seemingly began six months ago, when Kendall Jenner wore the modal cashmere top to appear on Jay Shetty’s podcast, opting for an airy light-blue version that looked like a second skin.
Intimissimi’s boatneck top first came out in 2018 in four colors. According to the brand’s Head of Style, Giorgia Fuini, “we wanted to create something warm yet light and versatile for year-long wearability,” so the team worked for months on the fabric ahead of the September release. The fact that it’s going viral in 2023 is “a testament to its success,” she wrote via e-mail. “The shirt has always been a bestseller for Intimissimi, but the attention from Kendall and TikTok has of course boosted sales.”
Personally, I have a deep appreciation for these kinds of long-sleeved shirts. They’re perfect to tuck into high-waisted pants or layer under a cardigan. I have one by LNA that I’m particularly attached to, and I think it’d be healthy to start exploring some other options. So, I had to try the Intimissimi boat neck top — for the sake of journalism.
By the time I was ready to get my hands on it, it was sold out. The brand kindly sent one of its last ones in stock, in a sweet pink hue. Though my wardrobe is mostly comprised of black, this shade is kind of perfect: The fashion-filled trailer for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” came out soon after, and reminded me I’ll probably be wearing a lot of pink this year.
I was shocked at how weightless the top is. It’s quite sheer — not mesh, but just a few steps less transparent. If you wear this, then your bra (or lack thereof) is going to be part of your outfit. (A darker hue may be a bit more opaque, but it’ll still show some of whatever’s underneath.) I don’t normally wear sheer blouses — at least during the day — but I braved a beautiful day in New York with my red Cuup bra peaking out; I styled it with a black leather blazer, black pants and ankle-high black boots. (Remember what I said about my wardrobe?)
I felt amazing in this piece, and it definitely got me some compliments. The modal cashmere is buttery, light and still keeps you warm. (A fair warning to my fellow folks who sweat easily: It’s merciless in revealing perspiration.) This makes it a great layer for transitional dressing, for when it’s not quite warm and not quite cold.
It’s currently available in 11 colors, which is great because I may want more. Especially for $49, the comfort and quality is pleasing.
