Kermit, Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster hues are all over the latest collections.
Pantone‘s color predictions are already making a big impression at New York Fashion Week. In the past two days, shows like Anna Sui, Alice & Olivia, Kate Spade and Heron Preston have all sent collections down the runway dominated by saturated, primary colors. But might the color palette full of bright greens, reds, yellows and blues have been inspired by something else? Say, a beloved children’s television show?
Mulling over the collections presented so far during New York Fashion Week, we couldn’t help but notice that many of the dominant hues making an appearance on the runway seem plucked out of the fictional world of “Sesame Street.” The muppet stars may well have served as the muses for the season, which is honestly understandable given how fashionable Kermit, Elmo, Big Bird, the Cookie Monster and their neighbors actually were, if you think about it. (Bert and Ernie in those uber-’70s striped sweaters? Chic.)
It also wouldn’t be the first time a fashion brand drew inspiration from “Sesame Street”: Just this past year, Anna Sui partnered with InStyle to give Big Bird a “hippie caftan” makeover.
Ahead, we’ve rounded up a whole bunch of “Sesame Street”-hued looks from the Fall 2023 New York runways.
Kermit Green
Elmo Red
