How Vivienne Westwood Honored Its Founder at Paris Fashion Week

Westwood’s legacy lives on through Andreas Kronthaler.

Vivienne Westwood was a prolific designer who left an indelible mark on the fashion industry, having transformed the punk movement of the ’70s while popularizing a new rebel aesthetic. This was made clear at the brand’s Fall 2023 show Saturday, which paid tribute to the designer who passed away at the end of last year. With Westwood’s husband Andreas Kronthaler at the helm of the brand, references to Westwood’s legacy were apparent.

Staged in a palatial venue with French baroque detailing, the setting appropriately reflected Westwood’s maximalist and decorated taste. Classical, baroque music played on in the background as models walked between the colonnades before entering the lavish interior.

In a clear homage to the founder, the opening look featured a white t-shirt imprinted with her face, paired with a mini tartan skirt layered above a pair of patterned leggings. More extravagant looks ensued, with models sporting gothic numbers featuring puffed shoulders and layers of oxblood fabric; Westwood’s signature corset skirt flaring into clashing floral patterns; and fishnet dresses paired with towering heels.

Sara Stockbridge, an original muse of Westwood’s, was back on the runway, in a blue number with tiny floral accents. Irina Shayk also walked in a plunging synthetic ruched chiffon gown cinched at the waist with a drawstring, and complete with pockets on either sides. Westwood’s granddaughter Cora Corré closed the show in bridal look comprised of a corseted lace minidress, teamed with patterned white platform boots and tiny clips in her hair.
