Giambattista Valli Introduces Menswear Alongside Hot-Pink Gowns and Naked Dresses
By The Citizen on March 3, 2023
The designer eased into a new category for Fall 2023.
Giambattista Valli introduced menswear on the brand’s Fall 2023 runway Friday. Known for frilly evening gowns, the designer also incorporated a few traditionally masculine details into womenswear this season, as if to prepare the runway for the unexpected debut. The collection includes similar evening-jumpsuits for both gender expressions, and though dresses and skirts still play a role, many of the looks highlight pants and broad shoulders.
Suiting made an appearance in tweed and denim, two relatively off-brand fabrics for the eveningwear-focused label. Though dashes of hot pinks, ribbons and florals supply the collection with Valli’s typical feminine touches, the overall vibe feels edgier and more structured.
The first menswear look, a jumpsuit, was kept simple, likely in an effort to usher in the menswear era subtly and to maintain a sense of wearability. The second features a fully sequined floral turtleneck with a large bow at the nape of the neck.
