Fashionista’s Favorite Beauty Products of 2024
Nécessaire Body Wash Hinoki, $25, available here: “This product’s Hinoki scent might be my favorite of any body wash I’ve ever used. On top of that, my skin is noticeably smoother from using it, thanks to the formula’s 6% blend of exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA/PHA) alongside reservertrol, niacinamide and glycerin, which prevent any potential stripping or drying effect.” —Dhani Mau, Editor in Chief
Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil in Blush Dreams, $26, available here: “Where Summer Fridays’ beloved Lip Butter Balm is thick and cushiony, the brand’s new oil formula is light and serum-like; it’s glossy and glide-y, but not at all sticky, and it imparts moisture and smoothness along with the prettiest flush of color. (My favorite is Blush Dreams, a dusty beige rose.)” —Steph Saltzman, Beauty + Style Director
The Rootist BioBrew Fermented Strengthening Serum, $48, available here: “Now that I’ve finished two bottles of this stuff, I’m convinced it’s made my hair stronger while also smoothing flyaways and boosting shine. I spritz it on damp hair, focusing on my scalp, brush it through and let it air dry; no matter how much I spray on, the formula never feels greasy or smelly. (Somehow, the fermented formula is scentless.) With regular use, I’ve noticed a lot less breakage and could swear my re-growth is coming in significantly faster.” —Savannah Sitton, Market & Branded Content Editor
Nexxus Slick Stick Strong Hold Hair Wax, $16, available here: “This hair wax stick is unlike any others I’ve tried before. It creates a smooth finish without leaving your hair feeling residue-laden or stiff. One of the main ingredients used is coconut oil, and you can truly tell: Even after washing the product out of my hair, I can feel a difference in softness where it had been applied.” —Brooke Frischer, Staff Writer and Social Lead
La Mer Rejuvenating Night Cream, $450, available here: “I’m not exaggerating when I say that within one night of using this luxurious face cream, I already noticed major improvements in my skin. I awoke with a softer, plumper, smoother and more radiant face, thanks to the brand’s ‘Miracle Broth’ (a blend of sea kelp, citrus oil, wheat germ and alfalfa) and Mra-3 (which the brand touts as a ‘marine retinol alternative’).” —Janelle Sessoms, Staff Writer
Tower 28 Beauty GetSet Blur + Set Pressed Powder, $28, available here: “As an oily skin girlie, minimizing shine without sacrificing my makeup’s radiant finish has been an ongoing challenge. This pressed powder, in the words of Hannah Montana, offers the best of both worlds: It stamps out excess oiliness around my T-zone via kaolin clay without leaving a flat, cake-y complexion (thanks to hydrating agent squalane). It’s also formulated with hydrophobic (water-repelling) silica for a sweat-resistant finish that delivers crease-free undereyes and an all-day fresh face.” —Catie Pusateri, Contributing Writer
Zitsticka Killa Acne Extra Strength Pimple Patch, $19.59, available here: “Zitsticka’s ‘extra strength’ acne patches remain the best I’ve tried for the inflamed, pre-menstrual under-the-skin bumps I often get. Their ability to flatten pimples overnight is honestly magical.” —Dhani
Chanel Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Sculpting, $48, available here: “This moisturizing, shimmer-laden balm has officially become a daily go-to, whether I’m doing a full face of makeup or choosing to wear it with nothing other than sunscreen and brushed brows. As its name implies, it’s intended for multiple uses: as a highlighter, eye shadow and even lip enhancer. The texture allows it to layer well with other makeup and skin-care products and feel comfortable on all these different areas of the face. It seems to almost melt into skin, making its glow become one with your complexion, rather than sitting atop it. And it never appears overtly glittery or even shimmery; there’s a luminosity that catches the light without reading as sparkle.” —Steph
Emi Jay Angelstick Hair Smoothing Balm, $38, available here: “As a dancer, I’ve always been a slick-back ponytail type of girl, and this wax stick is my favorite way to get there: Its strong-hold, intensely smoothing formula creates the sleekest look — without feeling greasy or hard to the touch. Yet, when I take my hair down and brush it out afterwards, my hair seems softer, likely thanks to the castor oil and vitamin E in the formula. Every other smoothing stick I’ve tried mandates a hair wash after use, but this one doesn’t, a major win. It’s also the only formula that doesn’t clog my pores; others tend to cause pimples along my scalp and hairline if I don’t wash it out right away.” —Savannah
Glossier Boy Brow Arch, $24, available here: “If I could take one beauty product with me to a deserted island, it would always be a brow pencil. I love this new one from Glossier in particular because of its unique shape: The tip is a super-narrow rectangle on a steep slant, enabling me to easily flick the pigment upwards for a hair-like stroke. It’s given me a lot more precision in my application.” —Brooke
Ctzn Cosmetics Lipstroke in Sizdah, $18 $13.50, available here: “I can’t believe it took me this long to hop on the lip liner bandwagon, but this ultra-creamy pencil sold me. It glides on smoothly, and needs no reapplication even after I’ve eaten. I particularly favor this dark brown shade since I love achieving a quick ’90s-inspired ‘brownie-glazed lip.'” —Janelle
Bask Daily Invisible Gel SPF 40 Sunscreen, $28, available here: “I consider myself to be somewhat of a sunscreen connoisseur (as many pale redheads have to be), and Bask’s Daily Invisible Gel has officially entered my imaginary but exclusive SPF hall of fame. With a silky smooth texture and an invisible finish, the formula glides on with no greasy residue or lingering smell. It’s formulated with squalane to boost hydration, which not only feels weightless but also doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. Basically, this sunscreen immediately cemented its spot as one of my all-time favorites.” —Catie
Tower28 ShineOn Lip Jelly in Pistachio, $16, available here: “I’m probably the last person on earth to jump on the Tower28 lip gloss bandwagon, but nonetheless, I’m now a huge fan of the comforting, non-sticky formula, especially in the Pistachio shade: a perfect subtle ‘milky’ pink that I like to layer over a similar pinkish-nude lip liner.” —Dhani
Roz Foundation Mask, $48, available here: “This new addition to celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak‘s chef’s kiss of a hair-care brand is a savior for dull, dehydrated, damaged hair that’s been through it. With a blend of natural oils rich in vitamin E, rice bran extract and rosemary leaf extract, the thick (but not heavy or greasy) mask reduces breakage, while imbuing strands (of all textures) with moisture, strength and elasticity. I also love that it comes in an aluminum tube — with an aluminum cap, game-changer! — so the whole thing is easily recyclable and there’s zero plastic involved.” —Steph
Differin Acne-Prone Skin Patches with Salicylic Acid, $10, available here: “I never felt like pimple patches were doing anything truly beneficial other than guarding pimples from any unwanted products like makeup. But these Differin ones have made me a believer: After wearing them overnight, I noticed my spots shrink significantly, and within the week, my pimples were practically gone. Plus, they don’t leave any kind of sticky residue once you take them off.” —Brooke
Huda Beauty Easy Blur Natural Airbrush Foundation, $37, available here: “This is the first and only foundation I’ve ever liked. I use a thick brush to buff it on and, bam: With little to no effort or time spent blending, I achieve a flawless, air-brushed base. My skin has never looked so pore-less beneath makeup before, and the smoothing effect lasts for hours without creasing. (I suggest using it in tandem with the accompanying primer for even more staying power.)” —Savannah
La Bonne Brosse N. 03 The Essential Soft Hair Brush, $158, available here: “Every detail of this luxurious brush‘s design is intentional: Handmade in France from a combination of natural boar and synthetic nylon bristles, it’s soft and gentle on hair, but also satisfyingly stimulating against the scalp. The rest of the glossy enamel brush is made from biodegradable cellulose acetate, an organic resin made of cotton flowers and wood beads. It’s weighty and durable, but not so heavy that it’ll cause rapid arm fatigue. And the beautiful, twisty handle isn’t just for looks — it’s also ergonomic and nestles comfortably in your hand.” —Steph
Dae Fairy Duster Volumizing Dry Shampoo Powder, $30, available here: “I have previously only ever used aerosol dry shampoos, so this puff-on powder was brand-new territory for me and my perpetually oily hair. Dry shampoos have historically given my hair a one-day refresh, but this formula exceeded my expectations: It soaked up my hair’s excess oil while adding a boost of volume that lasted a couple of days (without the need for reapplication!). Besides the all-pink packaging, the best part is the sweet, citrusy scent.” —Catie
Cora The Simply Soothing Heat Patch (Pack of 6), $12, available here: “I’ve been loving these to alleviate my period pains. I place these conveniently shaped patches over my underwear, either at my abdomen or lower back, and instantly feel at least slightly more at ease from the otherwise completely unpleasant cramps. I’ve also been placing the eight-hour-lasting sticker on a T-shirt to let it comfort some more general pain in my back. These have been a game-changer for on-the-go relief.” —Brooke

T3 Aire 360 Ceramic Air Styler Blowout Kit, $299, available here: “I probably blow out my curly hair around 10-15 times per year and when I do, I know this styling tool will deliver good results in record time — nothing else dries and smooths out my hair this quickly or easily. Plus, with various settings and attachments, it’s truly multi-purpose, and the handy case it comes in makes the whole kit that much more worth it.” —Dhani
Guerlain Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21, $630, available here: “I’ve always been big on vanilla scents, but this one is possibly the most interesting, intense take on the note I’ve ever smelled. Guerlain steeps its vanilla in alcohol for 21 days to create a tincture, which lends intense depth and richness to the scent. I’ve been getting tons of compliments every time I wear it.” —Steph
Innbeauty Project Extreme Cream, $48, available here: “Peptides are getting plenty of attention for their plumping, firming, skin-tightening abilities, and this silky moisturizer puts them to particularly good use. I’ve been using it obsessively on my neck, forehead and jawline to contour and generally hide the fact that I’m super overdue for a Botox re-up. I love that it’s also spiked with ceramides and leaves behind a super glow-y finish — the under-$50 price point and refillable packaging are nice bonuses, too.” —Steph
Dionis Skincare Goat Butter Lip Mask, $15, available here: “From the humid summer weather to dry winter cold fronts, I dealt with cracked lips year-round. Using this leave-on mask nightly went a long way toward bringing moisture back: The goat milk-, jojoba- and moringa oil-packed formula smoothed and transformed my lips, so much so I sometimes went without my daytime balms.” —Janelle
Fulton & Roark Matia Extrait de Parfum, $205, available here: “I tend to favor floral fragrances, but this spicy, woody scent gave my usual favorites a run for their money. It’s alluringly aromatic, and it’s so potent I only need a couple of spritzes to the wrists to last me through the day.” —Janelle
Innisfree Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Cream, $29, available here: “Ever since I first tried this ultra-hydrating cream earlier this year, it’s become a nightly staple in my skin-care routine. With a barrier complex of green tea seed oil, squalane and ceramide along with five types of hyaluronic acid, it instantly leaves my skin feeling calm and moisturized. Plus, it delivers a lasting glow-y finish that lasts until the next morning. (Read more about it here.)” —Catie
Tenoverten Nail Color in Eldridge, $14, available here: “I would cautiously estimate that this polish has been on my nails for around 70% of 2024. I’ve gotten very low-maintenance (a nice euphemism for lazy) with my nails, and this shade offers just the right amount of sheer, juicy pink tint. I can look like a ‘together’ person with nice, healthy nails without having to focus intently on my painting technique or worry about minor chips (since they’re practically invisible).” —Dhani
Vacation Orange Gelée SPF 30 Sunscreen Gel, $23, available here: “Nostalgia-fueled sun-care brand Vacation truly outdid itself with this modernized recreation of Bain de Soleil’s iconic discontinued sunscreen. The brand put in extensive work to develop a formula that could mimic the gel-to-balm texture and beachy scent, but with 2024-level skin-care ingredients and SPF 30. The result is spot-on — I’m completely obsessed.” —Steph
Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette, $68, available here: “I can’t remember the last time I used an eye-shadow palette so frequently. This gorgeous shimmery quad has been the hero product of my daily makeup routine for the last month. The finish isn’t overwhelmingly glittery, but instead appears almost iridescent as it catches the light. I swipe the lightest pink across my lids after applying a separate deep bronze underneath, then wash the dark eggplant-like purple over the outer corners of my eyes, creating a soft but significant contrast. When I’m feeling the need for a little more sparkle, I take the same light pink over the high points of my face and double the product as a highlighter.” —Brooke
Ogee Contour Collections, $144 $115, available here: “Meet the most fool-proof, user-friendly contour sticks you’ll ever find: This trio is formulated with cold pressed jojoba oil, which make them not only moisturizing, but also super blendable. The lightweight formula transfers as heavily as you apply it (meaning a light hand creates a more natural look) and layers beautifully; I apply in the morning for daily wear and then in the evening, I can easily swipe more on top for a stronger nighttime look.” —Savannah
Crown Affair The Finishing Hair Spray, $38, available here: “My naturally fluffy, puffy, very fine hair needs quite a bit of product to give it grit, structure and any semblance of style (it’s fun). It’s also prone to flyaways, but anything too heavy will instantly deflate it or turn into oil slick central (I know, now I’m just bragging). This superlight, non-aerosol hairspray — which I’d say is really more like a hair mist, if you will — is exactly what it needs. The flexible, non-crunchy hold is amazing for any hair type, and it’s also alcohol-free, so it’s less drying than most other formulas on the market.” —Steph
Supergoop! Protec(tint) Daily SPF Tint SPF 50, $44, available here: “Sunscreen-laced skin tints have quickly become some of my favorite products in my makeup stash, and Supergoop’s formula checks all the boxes for me: It offers lightweight and buildable coverage, a smooth, radiant finish and SPF 50. It does have a slight sunscreen-y smell, but it doesn’t feel greasy on the skin. For an extra dose of glow, I like to apply a luminous SPF underneath it.” —Catie
Act + Acre Daily Hydro Scalp Serum, $24 $19, available here: “My itchy, dry scalp was desperately calling for more hydration, so I was happy to come across this serum, which includes multi-molecular weight hyaluronic acid. It replenishes skin with intense moisture and has made a huge difference: I’ve been using it every day for months, and my scalp feels happy, healthy and itch-free.” —Janelle
Rare Beauty True to Myself Tinted Pressed Talc-Free Finishing Powder, $30, available here: “I’ve been waiting for Rare to release a pressed powder for a long time. Considering the success I (and so many others) have had with the brand’s powder blushes and highlighters, I couldn’t wait to finally add in a finishing product to the mix. This smooth formula instantly blurs my pores with a single light press from a powder puff. It also acts as a seamless transition product between my contour, bronzer and blush without covering any of their radiance or glow. My favorite thing about this new release is how it resolves any creasing under my eyes or around my smile lines.” —Brooke
Emme Diane Skin Smoothing Facial Polish, $38, available here: “Made with natural silica beads, this gentle facial exfoliant has worked wonders for my skin, even with its light, velvety texture. After a thorough cleanse, I gently massage it onto my face, and it completely buffs away any dead skin cells and debris. After routine use these past few months, I’ve noticed I’m sporting a much more even, baby-soft complexion.” —Janelle
Vegamour Gro Hair Serum, $165, available here: “I started using this after chopping my hair into a bob earlier this year thinking it would help speed the growth process up, and maybe it did help with length a little, but what it really did was cause a ton of new, fine hair to sprout where I applied it. I stopped using it across my scalp (because the new growth was starting to make me look like Alfafa from ‘Little Rascals’), but continued applying it just along my hairline, and the amount of new baby hairs that have sprung up has been magical to watch. (Warning: It will spur growth anywhere; occasional drips from my hairline down to my eyebrows caused forehead hair growth, which is impressive but unwanted, so use cautiously.)” —Savannah
Laneige Water Bank Hyaluronic Intensive Moisturizer, $40, available here: “I am ride-or-die for the original Laneige cream moisturizer formula, but when I went to restock I accidentally grabbed the brand’s new “intensive” version. The formula is puddy-like as opposed to the lightweight cream I’m used to, but I’ve loved the extra punch it packs in its moisture delivery. It’s the perfect finishing touch to my nighttime routine and leaves me feeling hydrated and fresh when I wake up in the morning.” —Brooke

January
We started the year off strong with a hydrating concealer that hides under-eye circles, an ultra-blendable matte eye pencil and multiple serum-like lip oils.
Well People Lush Lip Tinted Oil, $12, available here: “Well People’s entrant into the growing lip oil category boasts plant-derived ingredients and comes in four classic shades. To me, it’s perfectly subtle in every way: Even the deepest tint is quite sheer; it has almost no scent (which I prefer) and it doesn’t feel at all heavy or sticky — just soft and smooth.” —Dhani Mau, Editor-in-Chief
February
Fall 2024 fashion month had us reaching for overnight skin treatments, a lightweight serum concealer for low-maintenance makeup days and a handful of enchanting (and long-lasting) scents.
Josie Maran Sugar and Argan Oil Body Scrub in Vanilla Vibezzz, $29, available here: “From the non-cloying take on a vanilla scent to the smooth, cushiony layer of moisture it leaves behind on skin, this sugar- and argan-oil-based scrub is a full-on sensorial joyride. It’s also a super gentle way to exfoliate.” —Stephanie Saltzman, Beauty Director
March
In March, we found an all-new fruity scent for a beloved scrub, a silky, plumping lip gloss and a citrusy dry shampoo powder.
Fara Homidi Essential Face Compact, $88, available here: “At first I was a bit confused by this two-pot compact, which includes a fairly standard balm highlighter and a cream that the brand touts as ‘more than a concealer, less than a foundation’ that’s decidedly less straightforward. But after one use, I totally got it — and was utterly hooked. The intensely pigmented, amazingly blendable cream easily covers imperfections like a full-coverage foundation, but buffs out seamlessly, creating a natural, skin-like finish that tamps down shine but doesn’t go full-on chalky matte. Used strategically to spot cover, it renders the need for additional concealer or foundation unnecessary. I’m also in love with the translucent, beautifully glow-y highlighter.” —Steph Saltzman, Beauty Director
April
April featured a sunscreen-spiked skin tint, a glossy strawberry-flavored lip balm and a woody floral fragrance.
Vacation Orange Gelée SPF 30 Sunscreen Gel, $23, available here: “Nostalgia-fueled sun care brand Vacation truly outdid itself with this modernized recreation of Bain de Soleil’s iconic discontinued sunscreen. The brand put in extensive work to develop a formula that could mimic the gel-to-balm texture and beachy scent, but with 2024-level skin-care ingredients and SPF 30. The result is spot-on — I’m completely obsessed.” —Stephanie Saltzman, Beauty Director
May
May introduced us to hydrating cleansers that melt away makeup, a clump-free clear brow gel for a laminated look and a sitcom-inspired espresso candle.
Redken Acidic Bonding Curls Silicone-Free Leave-In Treatment, $33, available here: “I’ve been using Redken’s new Acidic Bonding Curls range for a few weeks now and have already noticed that my 3A/B curls feel stronger, shinier and more manageable. I love the shampoo and conditioner as well, but the Leave-In is a favorite, as I’m able to use it without any additional styling products and still end up with just the right amount of curl definition and smoothness.” —Dhani Mau, Editor in Chief
June
As the weather heated up in June, we discovered a lightweight hair mousse for effortless air-dry styles, a sake-infused hydrating sheet mask and a sweat-resistant cream blush.
Sofie Pavitt Reset Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Mask, $44, available here: “Benzoyl peroxide is lauded for its pimple-fighting effectiveness, but it can also cause irritation and redness. Sofie Pavitt — a New York City-based facialist known for her magical abilities to heal acne — suggests using the ingredient as a wash-off treatment to prevent those side effects, so she created this mask, designed to be rinsed off after 20 minutes. It’s been working wonders on my hormonal breakouts lately.” —Stephanie Saltzman, Beauty Director
July
In July, we were drawn to a styling hair cream wand tackling humidity-induced frizz, an ultra-hydrating lip mask and a smudge-resistant gel eyeliner.
Sarah Creal Moisture Source Bi-Phase Brightening Essence, $95, available here: “While I’ve tried plenty of essences, I usually find them to be unnecessary and skippable. This one, though, packs a major impact: The bi-phase formula plumps, brightens, firms and hydrates (thanks to peptides, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and squalane) — it instantly imbues skin with suppleness, bounce and luminosity, and then seals it all in to last. The slightly thicker, jelly-like texture also means it spreads on like a dream but absorbs quickly. I finally understand what people are talking about when they reference ‘jello skin.'” —Stephanie Saltzman, Beauty Director
August
We embraced the final days of summer with a blurring pressed powder, a hydrating scalp serum and a high-shine at-home hair gloss treatment.
Dr. Loretta Barrier Repair Gel Cream, $65, available here: “The barrier repair category is absolutely booming, but what sets Dr. Loretta’s addition apart from all the others is that it’s spiked with peptides, glycerin and squalane to also target fine lines, wrinkles, texture and redness. Plus, it’s the loveliest lightweight gel-cream texture.” —Stephanie Saltzman, Beauty Director
September
Spring 2025 fashion month brought a brightening setting powder, a peptide serum mirroring Botox’s smoothing effects and a fall-ready spiced-pumpkin hand sanitizer.
Nécessaire Body Wash Hinoki, $25, available here: “This product’s Hinoki scent might be my favorite of any body wash I’ve ever used. On top of that, my skin is noticeably smoother after a few weeks of consistent use, thanks to the formula’s 6% blend of exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA/PHA) alongside reservertrol, niacinamide and glycerin, which prevents any potential stripping or drying effect.” —Dhani Mau, Editor in Chief
October
Our favorite October finds included a gentle exfoliating salicylic acid cleanser, fast-acting pimple patches and a buildable bright-red cream blush.
Pattern Beauty The Hair Steamer, $169, available here: “I’m new to hair steaming, but it makes so much sense for textured hair. Pre-shower, I apply a mask to my very dry, frizzy, tangled, depleted 3a/b curls and used the (brilliant) prong attachment on this tool to comb it through. I’m blown away how quickly and easily the steam detangles and revitalizes my hair, making the rest of my routine about 10x easier and more effective. It also has a slew of other uses for various hair types including stretching, adding definition and scalp care. (Just don’t overdo it — over-steaming can weaken strands over time.) I also love that it comes with a cleaning kit, and the price is right for such an innovative, effective tool.” —Dhani Mau, Editor in Chief

In November, we loved a redness-reducing jelly-serum, a hydrating black-cherry lip oil and cold weather-approved candles.

With a blend of squalane, jojoba oil and vitamin E, the formula is moisturizing and pleasantly shiny, without being over-the-top glossy or the least bit sticky.” —Steph Saltzman, Beauty & Style Director
December
To close out the year, we reached for a rosy candle made from the DNA of extinct flowers, a thick peach-scented body cream and a makeup-friendly oil control roller.
Aēsop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm, $33, available here: “This hand balm’s comforting citrusy, woody, herbaceous scent is fragrant without being perfume-y, and the formula is rich and hydrating without being greasy. Plus, its peachy packaging looks lovely on my nightstand.” —Dhani Mau, Editor in Chief
