These trending pieces are going to be all over street style, mark our words.
Right when our industry jobs start feeling like business as usual, another fashion week arrives. But trust, we’re not complaining: New York Fashion Week kicks off on Friday (and runs through Wednesday, Feb. 15), jam-packed with exciting Fall 2023 debuts. But arguably what we look forward to the most every season is the street style. (What can we say, the attendees are always stunning!)
Before making note of the trends breaking out on the runway, it’s a bit easier to predict the new set of “it” items likely to dominate the concrete streets outside of the shows. With Paris Haute Couture and Copenhagen Fashion Week happening earlier this year, we already have an idea of what attendees are most likely to wear: balletcore-inspired bows and rosette chokers, cozy earmuffs and balaclavas, oversized maxi bags, mini skirts…
Keep reading for the top 13 pieces that will for sure be spotted all over New York Fashion Week (and fashion month, for that matter).
Beaded Phone Charms

Phone charms are a kidcore must-have, and with the aesthetic still going strong across social platforms, you’ll see the kitschy, playful accessory add a fun finishing touch to many fashion week ‘fits. London-based String Ting is a fan-favorite among the New York crowd (us, included), and there are tons of independent shops that deliver custom-made options. Chunky beads, for the win!
Fuzzy Earmuffs

The Fall 2023 shows are right in the middle of February, which means that winter will be…well, wintering. Luckily, earmuffs are emerging as popular fashionably functional accessories — especially the ones that come in fuzzy textures.
Giant Cargo Pockets

After brands like Miu Miu made it known that big pockets are in, we started to see them more and more on the street. Khaki cargo pants with larger-than-life pockets will definitely be the move, but, weather permitting, we might even see a few bold attendees opt for knee-hitting cargo shorts.
Statement Puffer Coats

The winter winds can be brutal, so if you’re going to wear a coat, it might as well be a cute one! Brands all across the board have their own riffs on colorful, pattern-adorned outerwear, cropped and long silhouettes alike. I mean, are you even a New Yorker if you don’t own a big puffer?
Big Tote Bags

Move aside, mini bags – big totes are in once again. What makes oversized bags such an “it” item right now largely comes down to how versatile and functional they are. There’s so much room! In particular, Saint Laurent‘s celebrity-approved quilted tote has become inescapable, further proving you can never go wrong with a carry-all.
Leather Bomber Jackets

Leather jackets are never not seen at fashion week, but we’re placing our bets on a “newer” silhouette and colorway that fashion can’t seem to get enough of. As seen in recent Miu Miu and Prada collections, brown leather oversized motos and bombers offer a lived-in feel that’s just too good. The bikercore-slash-motorcore look is in, my friends.
Balaclavas

In the last year or so, balaclavas have made their way into our wardrobes, and they’re not going anywhere. Like earmuffs, these hooded pieces are super warm yet stylish, and come in a range of styles: knitted, crocheted, monochrome, rainbow…
Sporty Sunglasses

Sporty sunglasses have become the go-to frame style for the fashion crowd, as popularized by sportswear brands and luxury houses. And just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the sun won’t shine (we hope).
Rosettes

Balletcore has infiltrated every part of our closets, and New York Fashion Week attendees can probably say the same. From dainty ribbons to satin skirts, the TikTok-beloved trend has been spotted both on and off the runway. We foresee rosettes chokers adding a bit of coquette to street style looks this season.
Stretchy Headbands

Another ballet trend we have our eyes on happens to be stretchy headbands, especially when worn way to the front. The practical statement accessory snugs right by the ears, offering warmth in the harsh February cold.
Weather-Defying, Low-Slung Mini Skirts

The micro-mini skirt movement has reached its peak, but we think that New York’s fashion scene will opt for the latest, nostalgia-tinged rendition of the trend: Rather than the now-familiar itty-bitty mini, we predict that a very ’90s straight-fit, low-slung skirt will be a go-to for attendees, most likely worn with tights.
Ribbons and Bows

The last few months proved that cute ribbons and bows are an easy way to customize looks, whether they’re braided through the hair or used as shoelaces. Don’t be surprised when they dominate the street-style photo opps.
Colorful Tights

If you’re going to wear tights, you might as well make them colorful! The Fall 2023 shows will have people running around from different neighborhoods — and even boroughs — throughout the city, so staying warm will be the priority. While we’ll still see plain, black tights on the streets, rainbow versions will be the head- (and camera-) turners for the season.
