These 9 'It' Items Will Rule Fashion Week Street Style

As off-duty models and street-style photographers descend upon the Big Apple, New York Fashion Week officially kicks off a month of multi-city runway moments on Friday. And as usual, we’re equally excited about spotting the best street-side ensembles outside of the shows.

For those attending New York, London, Milan and Paris, curating a fashion month wardrobe is not for the faint of heart. And while individualism shines through, there are always a few trends and pieces that are particularly ubiquitous in street-style galleries — some easier to predict than others. Of course, we’re expecting to see plenty of head-to-toe designer looks, but we’ve also got our eyes on must-have accessories, from statement scrunchies to personalized bag charms to ballet-inspired sneakers.

For those still searching for style inspo, we’ve rounded up our predictions for the standout pieces that will be everywhere this season.

Alaïa Le Teckel Bag

Look no further than Alaïa for this season’s “It” bag. The Le Teckel — a sleek, rectangular handbag with an elongated handle — strikes just the right balance between classic and trendy, making it a go-to for show-goers. The bag’s compact size is no coincidence: Le Teckel directly translates to “dachshund” in English (well, German?).

Statement Scrunchies

Hair accessories have been a street-style staple, with headbands, bows and barrettes of every color going strong season after season. Now, statement scrunchies — as seen on the ground at Copenhagen Fashion Week — have joined their ranks. With voluminous frills and ruffles, these scrunchies keep slicked-back updos secure and add a touch of whimsy.

Miu Miu Long-Sleeve Polo

It’s no secret that Miu Miu is fashion’s hottest trendsetter du jour, and there’s sure to be no shortage of the label’s prep-forward pieces flooding city streets this month. The brand’s monogrammed long-sleeve polo presents the ideal style choice in anticipation of September’s slight chill: It’s easily layerable, effortlessly chic and blocks out the impending weather change.

Ballet Sneakers

It’s time to swap your flats for sneakers and ditch your laces for ribbons and straps. Sandy Liang and Simone Rocha are leaders of this trend, as the former’s ribbon-forward collaboration with Salomon and the latter’s strappy ballet-sneaker hybrids represent the best of both worlds for the footwear crowd. They’re a comfortable and functional footwear option that perfectly captures the seemingly evergreen balletcore trend.

Officewear

It’s business casual’s time to shine. Call it office siren or “corporate appropriation,” workwear-tinged ensembles — oversized blazers, tailored trousers, menswear-inspired ties — are flooding the street-style scene. Pencil skirts, like Saint Laurent’s sheer version, are also poised to be a defining piece of fashion’s corporate cosplay trend (though, see-through iterations would likely prompt a meeting with HR).

Harris Walz Camo Hats

Though Governor Tim Walz — the internet’s favorite Dadcore fashion icon — likely won’t be showing up at NYFW, the camo-patterned Harris Walz hat he inspired is sure to make an appearance or two. With its bright-orange lettering and trucker-hat silhouette mirroring Chappell Roan‘s “Midwest Princess” merch, the streetwear-friendly accessory is bound to bring some Middle America charm (and political awareness) to the Big Apple’s fashion-filled streets.

Capris

Perhaps the most polarizing street-style pick, capris are back in all their calf-baring glory. As one of the few remaining Y2K-isms that have yet to reach their tipping point, the capri resurgence has been embraced by the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid, along with brands like The Row and Tory Burch.

Elsa Peretti Bone Cuff

Be it chunky earrings, rings or bangles, molten jewelry is having quite the moment. Elsa Peretti‘s Tiffany & Co. Bone Cuff has graced wrists for more than 50 years, and now it’s cementing its place as a must-have street style accessory.

Bag Charms

Another Copenhagen-approved style import has officially arrived on our shores: bag charms of every size, shape and color. With a cheeky mixture of personality-revealing baubles, customizing one’s purse becomes its own art form. From Coach‘s NYC-themed charms to cutesy pop-culture references, bag charms immediately upgrade a designer bag into a unique style statement.
