As a born-curly girl, I’ve spent pretty much my whole lifetime looking for the right everyday styling products — and finding an air-dry formula that doesn’t leave my curls feeling stiff, crunchy or weighed down has been tough.
Though this search has followed me for years, I was especially worried about how my hair would fare during a recent trip to Miami, where summer humidity was in full force. My fully flat-ironed strands curled and frizzed almost instantly on my very first night, so I resigned myself to smoothing my hair back into a braid for the rest of the trip. I washed my hair and then raked a quarter-sized dollop of the lightweight cream through my towel-dried hair with my fingers, making sure to distribute it evenly. And then I did…absolutely nothing. No heat, no styling, no “scrunching,” no messing with it. I just let that Miami humidity do its thing. And the results were major: I got to experience the best possible version of my natural texture, with a more defined and structured curl pattern — but not one that verged on stiff or crunchy. I also noticed far less frizz and far more shine than I’m used to.
I also love that, despite being laced with frizz-tamping, moisturizing ingredients like oat kernel-derived fatty acids and shea butter, this formula lacks the heft that typically makes other stylers weigh my curls down.
