Short Suits Were a Street Style Hit on Day 3 of New York Fashion Week

It’s the go-to transitional outfit of the in-between season.

Though fall doesn’t officially arrive for another week or so, we can’t help but want to wear our favorite autumn-ready outfits as soon as September arrives. That all depends on the weather, though, and during New York Fashion Week it’s been fairly unpredictable: some scattered showers, hot afternoons, but conveniently cool breezes early in the day and at night. For many showgoers, this transitional, in-between season calls for a certain go-to outfit: the short suit. Comprised of a matching blazer and pair of shorts, this ensemble was a street style hit on Sunday, as industry professionals traipsed through the city to see Spring 2020 collections from Tory Burch, Prabal Gurung, Zendaya for Tommy HilfigerPyer Moss and more.

A majority of the short suit sets that we noticed boasted colorful prints, like tartan plaid, orange with pinstripes and a bright-green grid motif. But if you’re looking to give this trend a try without having to splurge on such a statement piece, then we suggest taking a style tip from those who opted for more classic suits in black or white, then adding a pop of color with a printed top or neon-tinted heels.
