Say goodbye to hot pants and daisy dukes.
Janties, a sartorial hybrid of jean shorts and panties, appeared on a Lyst trend report earlier this year, giving us a reason to worry that the barely-there bottoms would creep into our warm-weather wardrobes. Thankfully, denim diapers never took off. And now, many designers are banishing short shorts altogether.
For Spring 2020, Bermuda shorts are back. Also known as mom shorts, the modest cut typically hovers just above the knee and comes belted at the waist. They have been beloved by vacationing ladies since the late ’40s and school principals since the dawn of time.
We spotted several knee-length slacks in New York: The Row sent out neutral-toned, tailored versions paired with crisp cotton shirts, and Tanya Taylor showed a playful bubblegum-pink suit featuring the thigh-covering bottoms. Meanwhile, glamorous going-out options in leather and shiny satin cropped up at Tom Ford and at Staud, respectively.
Alternatively, Alberta Ferretti gave the trimmed trousers a retro tie-dye makeover and teamed a loose-fitting khaki pair with a ’70s-leaning suede button-down. The flower power continued at Celine via denim trunks embellished with hand-panted daisies and lilies.
