Why has Gen X been overlooked in online style discourse?
Gen X, or those born between 1965 and 1980, is often overlooked online in favor of baby-boomer, millennial and Gen-Z style discourse. When you think about Gen X style, you might think of Winona Ryder’s leather jackets and Kurt Cobain’s signature grunge aesthetic. Beyond that Gen X writer Fiorella Valdesolo poses the question: Does Gen X have no style? They largely grew up in the ’80s and ’90s and often sported oversized plaid, leather jackets and baggy jeans which have found their way back into the trend cycle. While Gen X may feel forgotten, U.S. Google searches for Gen X fashion have risen more than 170% in 2023 compared with 2022, Valdesolo writes. {Wall Street Journal/paywalled}
