Brands and creators are leaving X for these platforms

X (formerly Twitter) offered fashion fans a platform to express their opinions on shows, collections and industry gossip, but the social media app has become increasingly politicized following X owner Elon Musk‘s role in Donald Trump‘s upcoming administration. Some influencers, fashion brands and media companies have left the site, and potential X alternatives such as Threads and Bluesky have emerged as both apps experienced a surge in user bases following the U.S. presidential election. Threads has the infrastructure and user base to challenge X, but some experts note the app has yet to find its identity as a separate entity from Instagram. Bluesky closely resembles old-school Twitter (it was created in 2019 by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey), but it hasn’t yet attracted much of the fashion audience. {Vogue Business/paywalled}

Gigi Hadid opens Guest in Residence store in L.A.

Gigi Hadid‘s cashmere brand Guest in Residence opened its first store in Los Angeles on Monday. Designed in partnership with L.A.-based Yaoska Interiors, the space emphasizes a welcoming aesthetic through natural stone, plaster textures, rift-cut oak fixtures, cobbled floors, antique iron sconces, a custom fireplace and cozy, oversized chairs. “Our vision was a space that’s warm and inviting, where our heirloom pieces are effortlessly integrated into the flow and décor,” Hadid said in a statement. “I love how the store captures the feeling of barefoot California luxury, that’s relaxed yet sophisticated at the same time — just like our cashmere.” Featuring a curated mix of its Fall 2024 and Winter 2024 collections, Guest in Residence’s L.A. store is located in Beverly Hills at 433 North Beverly Dr. See photos from inside the space and its store opening, below. {Fashionista inbox}

How Sephora is ruling the $30 billion, high-end beauty industry

Sephora is the world’s largest high-end beauty retailer with 3,000 stores in 34 countries, and North America is its biggest and most influential market, led by CEO Artemis Patrick. She first joined Sephora in 2006 and later moved to the merchandising team in 2015, where her team intensified Sephora’s strategy of placing upstart brands alongside traditional ones by bringing on brands like Milk Makeup, Glow Recipe and Supergoop. Sephora has since become a kingmaker by introducing upcoming brands to its more than 40 million loyalty program members. Brands pay the retailer hundreds of thousands of dollars to be shelved and featured in its stores, and Patrick notes Sephora “gets in the kitchen” with beauty founders to be deeply involved in a brand’s early stages. {Fast Company}
