Model Behavior: Eleanor Chromy Grew Up Looking at Fashion Books and Now Walks for Marc Jacobs

The 19-year-old also customizes her off-duty outfits with “patches, pins, buttons, zippers or beads — anything that makes my look stand out.”

Welcome to Model Behavior, where we spotlight the up-and-coming faces to watch on the runway, and have them share a little bit about their life, career and more. Next is Eleanor Chromy, who, after signing to IMG Models last summer, made her runway debut at Marc Jacobs (NBD) and has developed a sweet fashion week tradition with fellow model friends.

Name: Eleanor Chromy (@eleanor.chromy)

Age: 19

Hometown: Port Washington, NY

Zodiac sign: Sagittarius

Agency: IMG Models

When did you start modeling? I signed to IMG Models in August 2022, and made my debut at Marc Jacobs this season.

What made you interested in modeling? Growing up, I would sit on my living room floor and carefully turn the pages of my mother’s photography and fashion books. Irving Penn’s “Passage” and multiple copies of Annie Leibovitz’s “Women” have been sitting in my living room for years, but seldom collect dust. The art of both modeling and photography have surrounded me since birth, and I can’t remember a time before I wanted to be in that world, creating my own work as well.

How has your relationship to fashion evolved since you’ve started modeling? I’ve always wanted the way I look to exude my personality. I’m a creative person, and I like to add small touches to my clothes, like patches, pins, buttons, zippers or beads — anything that makes my look stand out. My style is evolving at a rapid pace since modeling. I’m surrounded by so many unique garments and outfits, so I get to constantly collect inspiration for my own closet.

What have been your most memorable gigs so far? Walking the Marc Jacobs show is an experience I will never forget. Working with the team was a dream come true. The whole time I just kept reminding myself to take it all in. I met the most amazing people backstage who made every moment so memorable. It was the first show for a few other models, which made it really special, as we got to celebrate the moment together.

Bucket-list modeling gig? I would love to work with Petra Collins. I love the production put into her images and the sharp contrast in how she presents beautiful, soft, femininity with an edge.

Coolest place you’ve been to for work? I went to Paris for a little over a month. I was in such a beautiful part of the city, just blocks from the Notre-Dame and a street down from the Centre Pompidou, a beautiful modern art museum with architecture unlike any other I’ve visited. I loved wandering around the city, riding the electric scooters (which were everywhere) and eating the best pastries.

Do you have any fashion week traditions? My friends and I that live in the same building get ready in one apartment together before our first couple days of castings. It’s so nice, like having a family breakfast, and puts me in a good mood to start the day.

What do you make sure to always carry with you during fashion week? All sizes of safety pins. I keep random ones pinned to my clothes and bag because it’s likely that someone will need one and they’re surprisingly hard to come by.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten? Everything happens for a reason. If a job falls through or you miss out on something, it’s best to think that it was to make space for the next opportunity to come your way.

Favorite backstage memory from fashion week? As I waited in line to walk down the runway, I could see the monitor that displayed the show for the crew. I was in the perfect spot to get a couple glimpses of my friends walking before me. It was so exciting to see them, but also relaxing and reminded me that we’re all in this together.

What’s on your fashion week pump-up playlist? This season, it’s been a lot of girl rap. I’ve been looping Flo Milli, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, with some Yves Tumor and Childish Gambino mixed in.

What’s going through your mind when you’re on the runway? I try to clear my mind beforehand. For me, I can focus much better on my confidence and control if I channel a character or an emotion. I let it swallow me so that my personal stressors and worries are washed away.
