The 18-year-old made her runway debut last summer. Now, she’s taking New York Fashion Week by storm.
Welcome to Model Behavior, where we spotlight the up-and-coming faces to watch on the runway, and have them share a little bit about their life, career and more. First up is Awet Aleu, an 18-year-old Virgo repped by IMG Models who made her New York Fashion Week debut at Rodarte this season.

When did you start modeling? July 2022. My debut was walking Saint Laurent.

What made you interested in modeling? I’ve loved fashion my whole life, and watched almost all of the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows growing up. I never thought I would be able to have a career in modeling!
How has your relationship to fashion evolved since you’ve started modeling? Being exposed to so many different styles through work is honestly somewhat changing my own style — I love how it has evolved over time.
What has been your most memorable gig so far? Walking for YSL. I absolutely loved the team and am so grateful that was my start! Words cannot describe how much it really meant to me.
Bucket-list modeling gig? Versace or Chanel!
Coolest place you’ve been to for work? Paris! It was a very memorable experience for me, as I saw such a different side of the world that was completely new. I was able to talk to so many interesting people, learn about their way of life and all the things they loved about fashion. I also fell in love with the architecture there — the buildings were so beautiful!
Do you have any fashion week traditions? Tea, yoga and meditation — I incorporate those three things as much as I can. During fashion week, it tends to get quite busy, and they all help me stay grounded, which is really important.
What do you make sure to always carry with you during fashion week? My Ukelele — I love having it with me!
Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten? This job can come with a lot of rejection, and things are continuously changing. My manager JD encourages me to not take things too personally — not getting a booking isn’t a reflection of your character, and there are so many great opportunities out there.
Favorite backstage memory from fashion week? I love talking with all the people behind the scenes, from the designers, stylists, makeup and hair artists to the casting director and other models.
What’s on your fashion week pump-up playlist? “Soundgasm” by Rema, “Cocoon” by 070 Shake, “Lemon” by N.E.R.D. and Rihanna, “Two Tens” by Cordae and Anderson .Paak.
What’s going through your mind when you’re on the runway? Being on the runway always feels so surreal. It’s an incredible feeling, and I just tell myself that I can do this and am going to nail it!
