In the months leading up to the theatrical release of “Wicked” starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, there have been endless merchandise partnerships between the film and various fashion and beauty brands. And though those have been truly excitifying, it’s cool to see other brands getting in on the cultural conversation through different approaches.
While some designers have chosen to partner with the “Wicked” musical on Broadway as an alternative to the movie, Marc Jacobs has decided to take on the Ozian world’s roots, releasing a capsule collection inspired by “The Wizard of Oz.”

As a fashion writer whose favorite actor of all time is Judy Garland and a former musical theater kid who already bought their early screening “Wicked” tickets, this new collaboration feels like a direct calling to me from The Wizard himself. I’m particularly obsessed with the Dorothy-themed Sack Bag, featuring the iconic imagery of the character’s highly coveted ruby red slippers and the hem of her blue gingham dress. The leather accessory comes in both a large and mini size, and I’d have to imagine Dorothy herself would pick the bigger one as a way to trek Toto around on her shoulder.
Beyond the film visuals, the silhouette of the Sack Bag itself is an effortlessly slouchy shape that I’ve had my eye on prior to this new collection. I love how it’s still structured enough to maintain a sleek appearance but not so stiff that it feels unrelaxed.

Aside from the Sack Bag, the 21-piece collection also includes Marc Jacobs Tote Bag styles with the Emerald City landscape across the front, a Snapshot crossbody featuring the backs of the main characters as they skip down the Yellow Brick Road, a knit sweater with the Wicked Witch of the West’s “Surrender Dorothy” sky-writing, red bedazzled Kiki Mary Janes and more.
All that to say, please pray for me as I navigate this very personal attack on my wallet.
