Layering is the undeniable hero of fall dressing. It’s a time for sweaters, henleys and other cozy tops to rise back to the sartorial forefront as temperatures dip. And this season, the runways pointed to one style of knit in particular taking center stage: the classic polo sweater.
At recent fashion weeks from New York to London, the preppy staple popped up across new collections from the likes of Tory Burch, Sandy Liang, Tanner Fletcher, Cynthia Rowley, Christian Cowan, Dauphinette and Calvin Klein, to cite a few.

So, what does 2025’s take on the timeless top look like? We’re shopping for fitted, knitted sweaters with folded polo necklines — these can have button-through fronts (like a cardigan), half-buttoned closures, or closed necklines with short, cropped or long sleeves. Some are lightweight, made from fine wool or cashmere, making them ideal layers for bundling season
