As the cover star for Vogue‘s May 2019 issue, Kim Kardashian West recently underwent a Vogue rite of passage — appearing in one of the publication’s signature “73 Questions” videos. Leading the interviewer through the “minimal monastery” home she shares with her husband Kanye and their three kids, Kardashian West shared that fashion has had an even more central role in their family’s life than one might expect.

For starters? A certain iconic editor-in-chief had a hand in naming Kim and Kanye’s firstborn.

Anna [Wintour] had some influence in naming North, because once she heard that rumor she asked me, and said that name was ‘genius,'” Kardashian West explains. “So that was helpful to me.”

In between fielding questions about how much time she spends on Instagram (only about 30 minutes a day despite her 134 million followers), her secret, un-monetizable skill (“I have a hidden talent of being able to smell when someone has a cavity”) and whose career she admires most (her mom Kris Jenner), Kardashian West also shared that fashion played a key role in her decision to get together with Kanye.

“I knew he was the one when I went to his Paris fashion show,” she says.

As for Kanye? He says he first knew Kim was the one when he “saw her in a paparazzi pic with Paris Hilton.” If that’s not a romance built on fashion and pop culture, nothing is.
