Fashion Is Fully On Board With the Boat Shoe Resurgence

It’s been a year since Miu Miu and Bally released covetable Spring 2025 womenswear collections that each included their own elevated interpretations of the humble boat shoe, and the footwear style’s resurgence is unsurprisingly now full steam ahead — pun intended.

The nautical design was the shoe of choice for those who subscribed to the widespread preppy aesthetic of the 2000s, pairing their Lacoste and Abercrombie & Fitch polos with Sperry top-siders (without any intention of stepping onto a boat). As the trend subsided, boat shoes lost their relevance outside of a very specific demographic, but as with many 20-year-old trends, the fashion community has recently done the work to make them cool once again. Google shopping searches for “boat shoe” have spiked several times this year and have been steadily climbing since late February.

Following the aforementioned Miu Miu and Bally debuts (Emma Chamberlain notably wore the former), boat shoes have appeared in collections by Todd Snyder, Monse and Collina Strada via partnerships with 90-year-old boat-shoe purveyor Sperry. Solidifying the trend’s mainstream acceptance, Sperry has embarked on a new collaboration to make stylish boat shoes even more accessible, with Canadian retailer Aritzia.

The launch, available to shop Tuesday at Aritzia.com and select Aritzia stores (and March 25 on Sperry.com), includes two styles: the classic Authentic Original 2-Eye and the more streamlined Slim Boat; both are priced at $120 and come with interchangeable laces.

Sperry and Aritzia join a slew of other brands offering boat shoes (and boat shoe-adjacent styles) this spring, from luxury designers like Loewe and The Row, to indie contemporary brands like Hereu and Aeyde, to affordable labels like Everlane and Jeffrey Campbell.
