Think romantic tulle confections and crystal-encrusted frocks.
This week in celebrity dressing got off to a pretty sleepy start, but a series of movie premieres and charity galas on Wednesday and Thursday evening helped it to end on a sartorial high note.
“Outlander” lead Caitriona Balfe took a red carpet risk when she attended the London Film Festival on Thursday in a strapless, playfully textured Armani Privé gown. The sculptural floor-length frock featured an aqua bodice, an electric pink skirt and a flowy black cage-like top. Keira Knightley, who was also in attendance, went for a subtler, more romantic look in a semi-sheer tulle Simone Rocha dress.
In another part of town, co-stars Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning brought a boatload of whimsy to the red carpet in princess-worthy, crystal-encrusted gowns at the “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” European premiere. Fanning wore a seafoam green Armani Privé organza number, and Jolie sported a custom Ralph & Russo Couture creation.
Zoey Deutch also looked plucked from a fairytale at the “Zombieland Double Tap” premiere in a dusty-rose Dior Haute Couture gown that was embellished with diamonds and sequins.
Elsewhere, Hollywood’s finest dropped the frills and went for a sleeker, monochromatic aesthetic. At the 2019 amfAR Gala Los Angeles, model Salem Mitchell wore a silky green slip dress, which she jazzed up with bold green eye makeup. Actress Kathryn Newton took the same approach by wearing a one-shoulder cobalt blue dress and bright blue eye shadow. Then, Timothée Chalamet cosigned the head-to-toe blue ensemble at the premiere of “The King” in a head-turning Haider Ackermann suit.
