The duo will take over Harlem’s iconic Apollo Theater in September.
Back in 2016, Tommy Hilfiger made the bold switch from producing traditional collections featuring his own ready-to-wear designs to a series “buy now, wear now” collaborations designed by model Gigi Hadid, launched with a blowout party on New York City’s Pier 16. Since then, Hilfiger has taken his Tommy x Gigi, and then Tommy x Zendaya, shows on the road, building a theme park in Los Angeles, throwing a circus in London, zooming around a race track in Milan and prancing down a “Battle of Versailles”-themed dance floor in Paris.

For Fall 2019, Hilfiger and Zendaya are coming back to New York, where it all began. According to a release from the brand, Zendaya herself was inspired to show the collection in Harlem, at the iconic Apollo Theater. “Zendaya’s desire to bring TommyNow to Harlem felt like an amazing next step in expressing her vision for the future,” Hilfiger said. “Her statement-making point of view in everything she does is what makes her such an inspiring collaborator – it is honor to continue to provide her with a platform in the fashion industry to share this.”
The show will take place on Sunday, September 8, and if Zendaya’s debut runway show was any indication, the Big Apple is in for a big treat. The brand notes that the collection takes inspiration from some of the marquee performers who have graced the Apollo stage with their presence over the years, name-checking the likes of Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti LaBelle and The Supremes. Fingers crossed that Zendaya and Hilfiger will have some surprises in store — though it might be hard to top Grace Jones, we’re sure they’ll do their best.
