I don’t know about you, but as the seasons shift from summer to fall, I’ve always felt a bit of panic when it comes to my wardrobe. Am I really going to wear everything I wore the previous autumn? That is quite literally so last season. Every year, this feeling still creeps in, but the older (and wiser) I’ve gotten, I’ve learned to be a better editor with my personal style, shopping with a big picture in mind. What can I buy that I’ll be able to rely on for this season (and the next, and the next) without getting sick of it? What is the secret to perfecting the art of “high x low”? How can I be trend-forward and yet timeless? Will jorts ever go out of style? With so many boxes to check, I’ve discovered it’s best to seek a retailer like Nordstrom, which has range, honey. I mean, they have it all — from Prada to Reformation. Luckily for you, I’ve done the heavy lifting with this lovingly curated list below, serving up classic prep with a twist.
See what I’m shopping for at Nordstrom this fall.
Good Curve Straight Leg Jeans
I love a loose-fitting jean, but sometimes, you need to sex up your denim and show off your curves with a slingback kitten heel. Exhibit A: these Good Curve Straight Leg Jeans.
Good American –Medium Le Pliage Nylon Shoulder Tote
Even though I’ve never owned one, I’ve always been obsessed with this Longchamp La Pliage tote because every beautiful girl I went to high school with carried their books in one. Now that I’m an adult, I’m going to have my belated horse girl moment and buy one in navy to replace the backpack (gasp!) I currently travel with.
Longchamp –Museum Oval Bangle Watch, 22mm x 26mm
Bangle watches are everything! Literally. It’s a watch, but it’s also jewelry. Made to be stacked and worn loosely to take the edge off.
Movado –Classic Oxford Cotton Button-Down Shirt
One thing I cannot live without is a borrowed-from-the-boys Oxford like this one from Ralph Lauren. It’s a men’s shirt, but the oversized look makes it feel lived in and casual, like you own a house on Martha’s Vineyard and are hanging there during the off-season after all the summer birds have flown South.
Polo Ralph Lauren –53mm Pillow Sunglasses
I just bought a pair of these and I’m addicted to how cool they make me look. The green lens is more subtle in person and adds just the right je ne sais quoi to this otherwise classique silhouette.
Prada –Check Cashmere Scarf
I’m very lucky to have been blessed with an elegantly dressed grandfather, and one of the things I got when his beautiful soul left this earth was his Burberry cashmere scarf. It is one of my most prized possessions. So, splurge and get one for yourself, knowing that it may become a treasured heirloom.
Burberry –Miss Jane Pump
Trusted sources in the fashion world tell me that Louboutins are BACK, baby! These very Parisian Mary-Janes aren’t quite the iconic 6” pump we all know and love, but they’re a cute way of showing off your red bottoms.
Christian Louboutin –Easy Bow Tails Cotton T-Shirt
Late in life, I discovered that I’m a girly girl — and while my minimalist/prep style may not suggest it, I’m a sucker for bows. Let them eat cake!
SImone Rocha –Gramercy Leather Tote
My mom used to work at the Coach store on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, so I’ve always had a soft spot for the brand. In fact, most of the bags I carry to this day are Coach! I love this oversized tote for fall – you can never go wrong with a literally-fits-anything bag to haul your life around during those transitioning days.
