Versace and Dua Lipa Made the Campy, Luxurious Vacation Wardrobe of Your Dreams

On Tuesday, Versace transported us (via livestream) from our mundane lives to the glamorous French Riviera for the unveiling of a new collection co-designed by Donatella Versace and Dua Lipa that’s already available to shop.

As stars like Dwyane Wade and Simone Ashley arrived, model-turned-host Iván de Pineda gave old-school TV presenter energy, interviewing the celebrity guests, introducing the runway show and even offering live commentary on a few of the collection’s most special pieces as models posed theatrically throughout the catwalk. These creative decisions gave the whole event a sense of timeless European glamour, with a hint of camp.

Celebrity-brand collaborations can sometimes feel forced, or like a quick grab for money and attention. But Dua Lipa x Versace just makes sense, and is sure to delight fans of both parties. Lipa‘s fun, sexy personal style is just as present as Versace’s house codes throughout the collection — and it’s all wrapped up in a luxurious, Instagramable, vacation-ready bow.

Staged atop a long, narrow infinity pool with guests seated at bistro tables on either side, the show began with a series of monochrome Barbie-pink looks destined to make their way into Margot Robbie’s press-tour wardrobe. (Lipa also appears in the film: This Barbie is a Mermaid!)

A section of monochrome baby-blue looks followed, incorporating varied textures via metallics, crystals and the brand’s signature metal mesh.

With bright-gold jewelry and hardware, oversized sunglasses and body-con silhouettes, these looks feel very Lipa — especially on the models sporting the singer’s signature dark, big, bouncy, dramatically-teased hair.

There’s a clear sense of ’90s/2000s nostalgia, but these pieces also feel very in line with the simpler new direction Versace introduced at its recent Fall 2023 show in Los Angeles.

The second half of the show featured more colors and prints, including a bright, cartoonish floral and polka dots interspersed with ladybugs and butterflies. Butterflies are a popular motif throughout, with crystallized versions adorning Y2K-leaning shoe straps and jewelry. There’s even a bustier top on which a sparkly butterfly covers each breast.

From cocktail dresses with short hemlines or thong-exposing low backs, to sparkly swimwear, to lace-up stiletto sandals, to all-over logo-print terry-cloth dresses, “La Vacanza” has everything you need for the most luxurious, Instagram-ready summer wardrobe imaginable.
