Unconventional Florals Ruled the Streets on Day 1 of Milan Fashion Week

Eat your heart out, Miranda Priestly.

London Fashion Week has been put to rest and now it’s onto the next: Milan. A flock of editors, models, stylists and influencers descended on the Italian city for day one of Milan Fashion Week on Wednesday, ready to see the best designs from the likes of Miuccia Prada — and hopefully indulge in a little pasta.

The street style set opted for lots of bold prints for the first day of shows, most notably florals. In the dozen years since Miranda Priestly from “The Devil Wears Prada” reminded us that florals for spring are anything but groundbreaking, a similar thing has happened to the print when worn by fashion people during the fall season: it’s become almost expected. But showgoers still found plenty of ways to keep their flowers fresh. For some, that meant opting for one big rose, while others chose bold suiting with allover prints in ’70s-ish colors. Often, a colorful accessory in the form of a funky heel or bright bag finished off the look.
