Just weeks ahead of New York Fashion Week last September, Tia Adeola made the tough decision to withdraw from showing. So when the eponymous label returned to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) fashion calendar for Fall 2025, Adeola had a lot of time to think about what she wanted her return collection to say.
Ultimately, she landed on paying homage to her home country, Nigeria.
“Going into year 10, I have a newfound love for my culture and my heritage and I really wanted to dig deep into that, not just for this collection, but also [in] the production,” Adeola told Fashionista pre-show. “I’m bringing a taste of Lagos, Nigeria to New York.”
And a Nigerian love fest it is: The collection merges cultural details with modern craftsmanship and silhouettes, including matching mini skirt sets made of coral beads, a maxi dress fully embroidered with cowry shell beads (some models also had shell beads braided into their hair), a mini dress sculpted by braiding hair and gowns decorated with feather trim. Some designs also include graphic messaging that visualizes Adeola’s thoughts.
“Each design is a celebration of tradition and innovation, weaving together personal history and global vision,” the show notes read. “This collection is more than a milestone — it’s a bridge between the past and future. It is a love letter to my roots, a celebration of identity and a promise of what’s to come.”
Of course, it’s not a Tia Adeola collection without the label’s signature ruffles: The motif takes various forms, sometimes as a trim embellishment (outlining shirt seams and worn as decorative scarves), and sometimes as the main attraction (shaping trousers, blouses and maxi skirts).
“This is the first season I can say I’m fully confident in the collection in terms of craftsmanship and quality — it’s the beginning of a new era,” said Adeola. “It’s an elevated era for the brand.”
