Upon stepping into The Shed for Thom Browne’s Fall 2025 show on Tuesday, there was an immediate air of excitement and eagerness. Just about everyone seemed to be in attendance — with three rows of seats in all four sections — including esteemed editors, celebrity friends and other designers who had already shown their collections at some point during the week.
Once guests had settled into their seats, two models (playing the role of ornithologists, per show notes) emerged from the darkness, wearing wool versions of the signature grey Thom Browne suited uniform. They made their way to seats at the center of the room, marking the start of the show.
An Emily Dickinson poem played over a soft piano track: “‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops – at all.”
Models floated through the area in exaggerated versions of Browne’s blazer-and-skirt combinations, complemented by long, feather-adorned eyelashes, sharply styled hair and long, talon-like nail extensions to mimic the features of a bird.
“Surrounded by 2000 origami paper birds, a symbol of hope, two caged love birds long to be free, as they peer through the enclosure,” read the show notes. “A fantastical flock flies past, a representation of dreaming and freedom to be. ‘How marvelous would it be,’ they wondered, ‘to be exactly who we wish to be?'”
Fall 2025 includes the requisite Thom Browne black and gray color palette, but also some more colorful moments, like a blue gingham collared shirt layered beneath a cartoonish plaid dress, with the silhouette of a pink satin mini dress pasted on top. There’s also a green gingham shirt styled with a pink-and-grey tie, layered under an oversized sportcoat, with Swarovski crystals sewn on in the shape of layered necklaces. Blue and yellow paint liven up suits and straight-skirt midi dresses made entirely from Swarovski crystals dazzle.
The collection is also punctuated with many overt avian references: Browne offers renderings of European goldfinches, Hawaiian geese and great blue herons via embroidery and handpainting on floor-length coats, pleated skirts and blazer jackets. The final look of the collection — a cinched, silver-and-gold sequined jacket layered over a voluminous, high-waisted ballgown skirt and draped over a tulle petticoat — is, of course, a showstopper.
