I go into every fall season trying to tell myself that I do not need any more sweaters, my closet is overflowing with them and I live in Los Angeles, where sweater weather is relatively elusive. And yet, by the end of October, I seem to have acquired several, each one providing its own dopamine hit, both at the time of purchase and every time I put it on.
That said, I’ve kept my sweater collection diverse — no two are really the same, and each one sort of represents its own persona, probably inspired by some nostalgic film or TV character or celebrity street-style moment. This is especially true of my latest addition, a cream wool-mohair cardigan with cable-knit details and slightly puffed shoulders that feels like something a rom-com star or member of the Brat Pack might’ve worn in the ’80s. As the kids say, it’s a vibe.
Styled with vintage-y denim as it is on Sézane’s website, it alludes to a type of ’80s prep that I’ve always been inspired by, with the fuzzy mohair and jacket-like shape adding a touch of glamour, while maintaining a certain Parisian effortlessness. It garnered multiple compliments (as is typical of Sézane’s knitwear) the first time I wore it, and feels especially appropriate for the upcoming holiday season.
