As a millennial in my mid 30s with several delightful Gen Z-ers as colleagues, I’m made regularly aware of my advanced age. I’m often prompted to jokingly quip that I need to go marinate myself in retinol, but the thing is: I’m not actually joking.

Being vigilant about facial skin care — via sunscreen, antioxidants, peptides, retinoids, injectables, etc. — is all well and good, but it’s also time to stop neglecting the skin below the neck. That’s especially true when it comes to sun protection, because the back of the neck, back, arms and hands (and even legs!) are prone to sun spots (and some are also common sites for melanoma). While I like to think I’m pretty good at my body SPF and moisturizer routines, I realized I haven’t been incorporating many actives (beyond an in-shower exfoliator) into my regular body-care lineup.

Enter: Cocokind’s Retinol Body Cream. From a UX standpoint, it’s a pretty basic, effective, no-frills body lotion. The unscented, medium-weight white cream feels slick at first, but absorbs within about 30-to-60 seconds. It’s moisturizing and protective, with a blend of squalane, shea butter, ceramides and vitamin E. But it’s also spiked with a potent 0.05% concentration of retinol. In case you need a refresher on all the ingredient’s powers, it’s been shown to increase skin cell turnover, boost collagen production, unclog pores, fight acne, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles — and prevent or slow them from forming in the first place. So, yes, I want it on my body as well as on my face.

The other thing I appreciate about this product is that its package is designed to minimize the use of plastic (hence its weird little flat cap at the base). I’ve been using the formula nightly for the last few weeks, and I’ve experienced zero irritation — just soft, smooth, supple skin I know is also being marinated in retinol.
