There’s a joke in “The Office” (Season 5) where Angela asks Andy, her fiancé at the time, if the first dance at their wedding can be to “The Little Drummer Boy”; he agrees, saying, “I mean it’s a great song. I always thought it was bigger than Christmas anyway. You know?” That is exactly how I feel about this candle: Its scent is certainly holiday-appropriate, but it’s really bigger than any one event or season. And I can’t stop burning it.

The nostalgic rosemary- and pine-tinged candle, meant to evoke “the magic of the alpine air,” comes via an equally nostalgic brand: Tocca. It was one of the coolest, chicest labels on my radar in the 2000s: beloved by downtown It-girls and luxurious without feeling stuffy or exclusive — it even briefly operated an equally hip clothing line. Of course, times change and competitors emerge, and it had been a while since I’d heard from Tocca when a press rep reached out last fall.

There’s now something sentimental to me about the virtually unchanged Tocca label and logo, which adds to the comforting, slightly romantic vibe of the scent itself. The skier illustration also contributes a fun, wintry touch. Still, there’s nothing about the jar or the scent itself (the pine is rather subtle) that specifically screams “holidays.” Thus, I’ll keep it out until every bit of the soy-blend wax is gone, regardless of what month it is. It simply smells way too good to put away.
