There are plenty of amazing lip products out there these days: Balms, tints, glosses, oils, stains — no matter your textural preference, there’s likely a stellar formula (or 12) out there to satisfy your needs. But out of all those options, my latest lip obsession — Saltair’s new Lip Oil Balm — is, to borrow a phrase from Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.
I’m a fan of many of the accessibly-priced brand’s products (if you haven’t tried the Santal Bloom Body Wash or Body Lotion yet, you’re seriously missing out). But I’m particularly wowed by its new lip offering, which comes in five shades and scents, ranging from clear to a dark cocoa-brown tint. All of them also have the same lovely coconutty/vanilla-y gourmand scent that’s not too overpowering.
The rich petrolatum base is spiked with an array of moisturizing butters and oils — including coconut, shea, murumuru and castor seed — for a texture that’s slick and glossy but not sticky, and intensely moisturizing but not gloppy. While you can’t really go wrong with any of the pretty shades, my favorite is Toasted, a warm brownish-beige shade that is a pretty decent match to the natural flush of my lips, but perhaps a little less pink.
I’ve worn it alone, over lipstick, and paired only with lip liner (remember gym lips?) and I honestly love it every single way. This perfect nude beige is reminiscent of the perennially sold out Naturium Phyto-Glow Lip Balm in Spice, but $1 cheaper and, currently, not sold out.
This is an ideal everyday product: In the dry winter months, it moisturizes and protects lips from the parching, flake-inducing season; in summer humidity (or equally humid December Florida, the location from which I happen to be writing this very post), it imbues a lightweight wash of color and shine without feeling heavy, melty or otherwise annoying. All of that for less than $10? Just like I said: Practically perfect in every way.
