Braving New York’s biting wind gusts and freezing temps while navigating New York Fashion Week put all of my moisture-boosting skin-care products to the ultimate test. Though my hands (literally) cracked under the pressure, my lips miraculously avoided the same dry, flaky fate. Whether I was en route to an evening runway show or toasting celebratory end-of-NYFW milkshakes, Eadem’s Le Chouchou Lip Softening Balm never left my bag (except, of course, when I was using it).

Eadem, an emerging skin-care brand founded by Alice Lin Glover and Marie Kouadio Amouzame, designed this intensive lip treatment to be quite the overachiever: It aims to deliver the exfoliation of a peel, the hydration of a lip mask and the shine of lip gloss, all in one smoothing formula. The New York-based brand tapped ingredients like hibiscus enzymes, lactic acid and pyruvic acid for gentle exfoliation, as well as Brazilian acai butter, African mongongo butter and moringa oil for its non-sticky, moisturizing finish. Hexapeptide (a collagen-boosting peptide for smoothing fine lines) and the brand’s “SpreadIt Polymer Technology” (which spreads gloss evenly within the lip line) work together to achieve Le Chouchou’s smoothing effect.

As a lip-care multitasker, its texture doesn’t contain the grittiness of an exfoliator or the stickiness of a gloss, but rather leans closer to a creamy balm. It comes in five buildable shades: Boba Bounce (soft brown), Burnt Malai (desert rose), Butter Mochi (clear), Fig Sauce (rosy brown) and Bissap Glaze (plum). My shade of choice is Bissap Glaze, a rich berry hue that instantly elevates my no-makeup days and adds a glossy (and hydrating!) finishing touch to a full beat. Eadem is also specifically formulated with melanin-rich skin in mind, so Le Chouchou is designed to enhance all lip tones, including dual-toned lips.

I also need to applaud the sleek, all-silver packaging: Its cooling metal applicator seamlessly glides the lip treatment on and allows for a precise application. I first outline my lips with the applicator before filling them in, which leaves a long-lasting berry-colored tint even after hours of facing New York’s cold, dry winds.
