While I always aim to look put-together, I’m not generally a big fan of “dressing up,” unless it’s for a truly special occasion, like a wedding. Thus, the few pairs of heels in my closet don’t get a whole lot of wear.
Of course, there are still those moments when I do want to wear something more fun than my typical uniform of jeans and ballet flats — without sacrificing comfort, that is. And these metallic kitten heels seem to have come into my life specifically to make doing that a little easier.
The brand, Los Angeles-based Jamie Haller (who also happens to make some really great ballet flats), literally describes these as “going-out shoes that feel like staying in shoes” — and, delightfully, “grease-lightning-meets-disco-Barbie shoes.”

The designer generously gifted pairs of its first-ever heel to a group of women (myself included), and invited them to a lovely holiday dinner at her house-turned-studio. Because of who I am as a person, I styled them with black, slightly cropped jeans and a black top, allowing the metallic leather to really punctuate the outfit; when I arrived, it was fascinating to see the myriad ways my fellow guests had styled them: with baggy light-wash jeans, with a black suit, with a printed maxi dress, even with pink tights. It proved their versatility, and sparked the realization that gold really is a neutral. (They also come in black, but I’m glad I chose a color that will add some much-needed texture and sparkle to my muted wardrobe.)
Most importantly, they’re extremely comfortable. The super-soft Italian leather hugs your foot, improving the stability alongside a manageable 1.5″ heel. I could wear them day-to-night, no problem. Dressed up or down, they’re a quality, seasonless staple that will easily take me through L.A. winter and into next spring.
