The Slightly Distressed Denim Shorts Maria Wants to Wear All Summer

It’s time for me to update my cutoffs.

Despite spring just barely feeling like it’s arrived, I’m already anticipating the arrival of summer, which means that it won’t be too long before I’m standing on humid subway platforms and trekking across piping hot concrete. Back in the day, I despised wearing shorts, but during the months of June through August in New York City, they’ve become a wardrobe necessity.

Denim cutoffs are always an easy, versatile option when it comes to warm-weather apparel, but I’ve started to grow tired of my usual pair of ripped-hem Levi’s. It’s time for an update, and I’m eyeing a pair of shorts from Grlfrnd to do just that.

A few things that are great about this particular version from the Los Angeles-based label: for starters, there’s the mid-rise waist, so it’s comfortable but still loosely cut for comfort. Plus, it’s only slightly distressed  — and in more subtle spots, like the edges of a pocket. So it still boasts a cool factor that comes from clothing with wear-and-tear details, but it’s not actually on the verge of falling apart.
