I’ve struggled with moderate acne — mainly of the hormonal, inflamed variety — for most of my adult life. I’ve basically tried everything but Accutane, and generally only found temporary relief. Probably because of that, one concept I’ve grown increasingly interested in is healing acne from the inside out. It’s something that makes sense to me as I do notice more inflamed breakouts when I indulge in things like dairy and sugar.
In addition to cutting back on those things and staying hydrated, I’ve also looked into vitamins and supplements that have been shown to help. I’ve heard great things about skin-focused pills by The Nue Co. and Zitsticka, but I love a gummy, so instead I decided to start with Olly’s Flawless Complexion gummies, which had the added benefit of costing only $14. I’d always thought of Olly — and most gummy supplements, for that matter — as almost too gimmicky to actually be effective, but after seeing the hundreds of glowing (punk intended) reviews and looking into the ingredients (zinc, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and selenium, most notably), I felt confident they were at least worth a try.
By the time I finished my first bottle, they had become a delicious part of my daily routine and I realized it had been a couple of weeks since my last breakout. My skin was also noticeably less inflamed. I waited a week or so before repurchasing — partly out of laziness and partly because I was curious if I would break out…and I sure did.
I’m about halfway through my second bottle, and once again, my skin is blemish-free. To be clear, during this time I’ve also gotten a Skin Laundry facial, kept up a gentle, effective skin-care routine and avoided dairy and sugar to the best of my ability; but I’m convinced the gummies are a contributing factor as well. They’ve officially become a mainstay in my skin-care routine.
