The Runways Seem to Indicate That It's Going to Be a Cherry Girl Fall

As a new season of runway shows kick off, we immediately have our eyes peeled for emerging color trends. Looking at the latest designs coming out of New York Fashion Week, it’s already clear that one particular hue is set to have a major presence for Fall 2025: cherry red. Yes, it seems we’re gearing up for a cherry girl fall (or whatever the internet decides to call it).

We’ve spotted the vibrant maraschino hue in striking, head-to-toe monochromatic looks from the likes of Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Ashlyn, Christopher John Rogers, Fforme, Sergio Hudson, Tyler McGillivary and Christian Siriano. Other designers, like Khaite and Eckhaus Latta relied on cherry red as a bold punctuation to a look, using it to dress up leather pants and a slouchy, oversized leather hoodie, respectively.

Christian Siriano, who went particularly heavy on the color in his collection, described his show as a “world of red” in a backstage interview with Fashionista’s Janelle Sessoms.

“Red kind of came from this idea of power,” Siriano said. “The whole collection is kind of inspired by this world of automotive design and aerodynamics and movement, and that classic red car that they love. But what about that red carpet dress that you love? We’re merging the two together. So something that can be masculine like car design, but can be very feminine.”

It’s also hard not to notice that the popularity of this bold, unapologetic hue happens to coincide with a reddening political landscape in the United States (where the color’s main association is with the Republican Party and, in recent years, with the GOP’s most identifiable accessory, a fascistic hat). For some designers, incorporating red into a collection may be an act of reclamation. Others may simply expect it to sell.
