There’s no escaping it: The ’90s are back in fashion, and they’re here to stay. Among the trends to come back are denim skirts — more specifically, long denim skirts.

Now, I was initially reluctant about the longer length. But since the start of the year, these jean bottoms have popped up everywhere from fashion week to celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid. The throwback look became mainstream yet again.

When I finally decided I was ready to try it on for size, I started at Reformation, which has always been reliable when it comes to vintage-inspired dresses and other silhouettes. And I didn’t need to search any further after I found the Jayde: I really love how this one has a pencil fit, which gives it structure and makes it easy to style; plus, the midi cut is less intimidating than a full ankle length. The dark wash also makes the style feel more timeless.

To offset the fabric-heavy silhouette (especially as someone smaller in stature), I’d pair it with a slinky top, like a white tank or cropped blouse, and feminine shoes (think strappy sandals) for contrast.
