The Petite-Friendly, Vintage-Inspired Jeans Helping Me Avoid the Low-Rise Craze

Editors’ Picks are the Fashionista team’s true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.

I can admit you all look very cool in your hip-grazing, low-rise, loose-fit jeans, and that, as a millennial, there’s a part of me that wants to relive the 2000s and embrace the trend’s resurgence as well. But another part of me — who remembers that low-rise jeans provided me with little more than discomfort and body negativity the first time around — is winning out.

My latest denim purchase suggests that my silhouette preferences haven’t really evolved at all in the last decade, and maybe they never will. But you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of vintage-inspired rigid, straight-leg, button-fly, high (but not dramatically high)-rise jeans. Right?

Having heard great things about Agolde‘s fit over the years, I finally picked up a pair on sale, and they exceeded my expectations. From the wash to the silhouette, they look like the dream pair of vintage Levi’s 501s that forever remain illusive. They’re made from a heavy, rigid denim, but despite the lack of stretch, they’re surprisingly comfortable. Described as “ankle-length,” they’re slightly longer on my 5’2″ frame, but still short enough to wear with flats without any dragging.

Does my unwillingness to embrace the latest denim trends make me cheugy? Maybe, but I’m sticking to what works, and will be wearing these jeans non-stop this fall and beyond.
