The O’More College of Architecture, Art & Design is accepting applications for a Full-Time Faculty Position in Fashion Design.

The only nationally ranked fashion program in the state of Tennessee (fashion-schools.org) is seeking applications for a faculty position in the Fashion Design program. The University is considering a tenure-track Assistant Professor position as well as a Professor of Practice position, beginning August 1, 2020.

The primary job responsibilities of the position include teaching in a studio-based setting within the Fashion Design program, supervising internships, advising and mentoring students, and providing leadership for continued growth within our award-winning BFA program in Fashion Design. The successful candidate will:

  • Display applied knowledge in construction, patterning, and draping
  • Exhibit proficiency in design-based technologies
  • Show ability to transition between traditional and digital design pedagogy
  • Have extensive industry experience in the fashion industry

Qualifications

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)

  • PhD or MFA in Fashion Design or related field is required
  • MFA preferred

Professor of Practice (Non-Tenure Track)

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in fashion or closely related field and industry experience
  • MFA or master’s degree in a closely related field is preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Extensive professional experience in the fashion industry
  • Previous teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Participant in relevant academic or professional organizations

An electronic version of a Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae, Digital Portfolio, Teaching Philosophy, a list of three professional references with contact information, and a Response to Belmont’s Mission, Vision, and Values statement, articulating how the candidate’s knowledge, experience, and beliefs have prepared him/her to contribute to a Christian community of learning and service must be included.

The Department of Fashion comprises student-centered programs that provide a professional BFA in either Fashion Design of Merchandising; both prepare graduates to compete successfully in the demanding fashion industry. Out studio-based environment provides practical skills and experiential learning with faculty who have extensive industry knowledge. The curricula of all programs benefit from the University’s BELL Core to develop well-rounded, critical thinkers who can solve problems in diverse groups while focusing on the central subject matter within Fashion Design or Merchandising studies: design, textiles, product development process, fashion business, and visual communication through hand and technology-based skills. Coursework and extra-curricular activities in the Department stress the values of need-based design, collaboration, community service, cultural globalization, and professional ethics.
