My ideal sunscreen has no white cast, a matte finish and, ideally, an SPF of 50. These qualities can be particularly tricky to find in stick format, but I prefer them for their easy, quick application and portability. So when I found one that checks all of my boxes — the Nature Republic Aloe Fresh Powdery Sun Stick — I became immediately obsessed.
It was on a recent trip to Japan, in the Tokyo airport, that I first came across the product (which is actually made by a K-beauty brand), and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with it. The twist-up stick looks like a smaller version of a deodorant, and its surface is slightly curved, which allows it to contour to rounded areas of the face and body for a flush application. This seemingly simple feature is major, because I can hastily swipe the stick over my cheeks, forehead and neck and get even, effective coverage. The format and formula also make it an ideal sunscreen to re-apply over makeup.
Luckily, the Tokyo airport isn’t the only place to pick up this sunscreen. Nature Republic is also sold in the U.S. and on Amazon, so I plan to keep stocking up on it, especially when we get closer to summer.
