It’s a piece from Alexander Wang’s Airism collaboration with Uniqlo, and I’ve already bought five.
As a breast cancer survivor who opted for a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction following my treatment nearly 10 years ago, I can count on one hand how many bras I’ve purchased over the last decade. Being that I barely need any support, the criteria a bra must meet before I buy it is minimal: soft, full coverage, seamless and skinny-strapped so that I can wear it under T-shirts and tank tops in the summer. Despite how easy this might sound — especially considering how popular bralettes and high-fashion sports bras are on the market right now — finding a style so good that I want to it buy in bulk is extremely rare. (The last time this happened for me was when American Apparel was in its last iteration, so I am way overdue for an upgrade.)
So you can imagine how excited I was to learn that Alexander Wang‘s latest collaboration with Uniqlo consisted of basic staples meant to be worn as both underwear and outerwear. This super-soft, lightweight bra in the Japanese retailer’s Airism technology (quick-drying, moisture-wicking and anti-microbial material that keeps you cool to the touch) comes in neutral colors like black, off-white, light gray and nude that are ideal for layering. The low racerback silhouette will work with just about any summer top in my closet — since it’s seamless, there are no visible lines to speak of, either — and would even be appropriate for a low-intensity spur-of-the-moment workout, like a walk on the beach or a yoga class with friends.
The ribbed band is snug without feeling tight, but I will warn you: If you’re in need of actual support, this is likely not the best option. However, if your idea of the perfect summer bra is anything similar to what I outlined above, I suggest you grab yours now before they inevitably sell out, as Alexander Wang collabs are wont to do. Don’t believe me? I’ve already bought five.
