While I like to think we, as a society, have evolved past any rules around “dressing for your age,” there’s something inherently confusing about shopping and getting dressed in your 30s. Speaking for myself — a 35-year-old in Los Angeles with no kids who works in fashion — there’s a desire (or is it an expectation?) to present as someone who’s financially secure, sophisticated and thoughtful about their purchases, even if my personal style preferences haven’t changed dramatically since my late 20s.
For instance, deep down, I still love a short hemline as much as I did back when I got carded regularly, and it can be fun to cosplay as a more financially secure version of my 20-something self every now and then. But it’s rare that I find a mini that imbues the confidence and maturity I feel internally in my old-ish age — which I think is why I’m so obsessed with this St. Agni dress, a purchase that was a tad impulsive in the moment, but now feels wise.

I’ve long admired the Australian label for the way it gives the ’90s minimalist aesthetic an elevated, modern-yet-relaxed feel. Now that I own one of the brand’s pieces, I’m even more of a fan. Details like the twill fabric, subtly “tucked-in” waistline, short-but-not-too-short length and back cut-out elevate this from your standard strapless mini into something that feels timeless and grown-up, but still a lot of fun. It’s also just comfortable and easy to wear — the kind of dress that actually shifts my energy when I put it on. I can’t wait to wear it to a fun summer dinner and stay out late like a young person, drinking all the martinis I couldn’t afford in my 20s.
