In New York City, it’s officially that period of summer that can best be described as “swampy heat wave” — a time of relentless humidity and spiraling out about why you’ve made it so far into your adulthood without somehow securing a friend with a beach house.

Lightweight, breathable fabrics are essential, and the idea of putting on pants is unthinkable. I’ve been leaning into the easy breeziness of linen, and searching for alternatives to my tired, over-worn rotation of nap dresses from last summer. One garment that has repeatedly caught my eye on Instagram is Aussie label Dissh’s Cass White Linen Asym Midi Dress

Made from gauzy, lightweight 100% linen, the ankle-length dress has a slouchy — but elegant — silhouette that’s equal parts relaxed and elevated. Intended to be worn casually off one shoulder, it nips in at the waist (with the help of a bit of elastic in the back) and has a slit to vent the back of the skirt for extra movement. It also comes in a mini version, as well as one in black, but to me, the midi-length white iteration feels most like what I want to spend this scorching stage of the season wearing. It also feels highly packable — just be sure to also bring a travel steamer or wrinkle releasing spray because… linen.

I plan to pair it with simple sandals or mesh ballet flats (which Dhani has officially sold me on) and air-dried or pulled-back hair that requires no more than 17 seconds of styling effort.
