The 11 Spring 2025 Trends to Know From New York Fashion Week

As the first stop in a month of “big four” international fashion weeks, New York sets the tone for the silhouettes, colors and design details likely to trend throughout any given season. And as much diversity as there was in terms of types of brands and points of inspiration, the Spring 2025 shows at New York Fashion Week had plenty of sartorial overlap.

From a wide array of bold fringe accents, to the abundant use of white, butter yellow and baby pink, to throwback styles like drop-waist silhouettes, peplums and handkerchief hems, keel scrolling for the top Spring 2025 trends to know from the New York runways.

Fringe, reimagined

This is not your cowboy boyfriend’s kind of fringe. Designers seemed set on redefining what fringe can be through unexpected fabrications, textures and placement: dresses and coats made entirely of hanging fabric strips at Alaïa and LaQuan Smith; metallic and glass-like fringe at Prabal Gurung and Michael Kors; and ultra-fine, hair-like fringe at Ulla Johnson and 3.1 Phillip Lim. More traditional crochet dresses and tunics descending into fringe were also popular, via Kallmeyer, Simkhai and Jane Wade.

Uneven Hems

Come Spring 2025, be prepared to ditch any skirt or dress with a blunt, even hemline. Designers like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Michael Kors, Jane Wade and Monse are heralding the return of aughts-inspired handkerchief hems. Dresses and tunics with other interesting, often ruffled multi-level or diagonal hemlines can be found at Collina Strada, Alaïa, Tory Burch, Prabal Gurung and more — frequently layered loosely over baggy pants.

Drop-Waist

In general, designers seemed exceptionally focused on the hips this season, to the point that the human waist now feels borderline irrelevant. Dresses and skirts in drop-waist silhouettes were ubiquitous on the runway, from minimalists like Kallmeyer and Toteme to more whimsical labels like Ulla Johnson and Sandy Liang, to classicists like Carolina Herrera.

Head-to-Toe White

We’re all going to need to be careful around food and drinks next spring. Nearly every designer that showed included at least few clean, stark, head-to-toe white looks in their collections. While simple, there’s something uniquely fresh and chic about this way of dressing.

Martial Arts-Inspired Jackets

Sporty jacket silhouettes reminiscent of those traditionally worn to practice judo, kung-fu, fencing and the like made several appearances on runways including Tory Burch, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Bach Mai and Rachel Comey.

Baby Pink

Many designers leaned into soft femininity through light, calming shades of baby pink, usually in the form of delicate dresses. Light-reflective fabrics like satin were a popular canvas for the hue, as seen at Alejandra Alonso Rojas, Kate Barton, Sandy Liang and Brandon Maxwell.

Peplums Return

A peplum resurgence is on the horizon, we fear. The peplum top silhouettes you know and (may or may not) love from the early 2010s are boldly offered up again by designers like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Bach Mai and Ph5. Alaïa, Allina Liu and Michael Fausto, meanwhile, incorporated fluttery waist accents into dresses and bottoms.

Creative Neckline Draping

Necklines were anything but straightforward on the Spring 2025 runways. From the cowl-adjacent styles at Kallmeyer and Brandon Maxwell, to the fluttery cape-like accents at 3.1 Phillip Lim and Proenza Schouler, to the light-as-air gauzey draping at Toteme and Ralph Lauren — these modest, shoulder-covering styles have an appealing sense of ease and sensuality.

Peek-a-boo Hips

Hips have emerged as the preferred cutout location for Spring 2025. Designers found several clever ways to reveal slivers of hip skin: peeking out one side of a tie-closure jacket (Tory Burch), both sides of a high-cut bodysuit under a low-waist skirt (Elena Velez, Brandon Maxwell) or strategically cut out of dresses and skirts (Allina Liu, Monse, Jane Wade).

Bra Tops

With the abundance of hip- and hemline-centric skirts on the runways, many designers kept things minimal for the top halves of their looks. Michael Kors, Simkhai, Grace Ling and many more ditched shirts entirely for bandeau and bra-style tops that let below-the-waist garments take center stage.

Butter Yellow

Sergio Hudson championed the pastel tone with mini dresses, pantsuits and satin skirts. Tibi paired its butter yellow garments with pops of vibrant red. Meanwhile, Simkhai adorned the shade with three-dimensional floral appliqués and Who Decides War incorporated it into an oversized textural top and a frilly cardigan.
