Origin Story: Born in Canada to a Ukrainian mother and Polish father, Katie Kolodinski was raised by a simple ethos: Never be wasteful or superfluous. This would become one of the guiding principles of Silk Laundry, which she founded in 2015. After migrating to Australia in her youth to study psychology, Kolodinski launched Silk Laundry out of the need for simple, well-made clothing that utilized natural fibers and would pair with pieces she already owned. Obsessed with slip dresses from her teen years in the ’90s, Katie launched the brand with the 90s Slip Dress.
Choosing silk for its durability and natural lifecycle, Kolodinski wanted to create a brand that combined conscious living with luxury staples. Each garment is made with artisanal craftsmanship, innovative design and fabrics that consider the impact of materials on our planet, according to the brand. Harnessing her intuition, ethics and values, Kolodinski ushered Silk Laundry into its current iteration. Each collection weaves together stories and inspirations from her travels, philanthropy and advocacy work. Using fashion as a tool to delve into conversations that matter, Silk Laundry is committed to conservation projects and environmentalism.
