While most fashion schools aim to give their students a well-rounded education, there are always differences in the ways in which they go about it. The Fashion Design program at Otis College of Art and Design places a large focus on its mentor projects, bringing in prominent industry professionals to work with groups of junior and senior students on collections over the course of the academic year, giving them a sense of what it’s like to work at a fashion brand. These collections are then shown at an annual fashion show.
The 2024 runway included contemporary menswear designed for Mike Amiri, recreations of art pieces for Wear LACMA, black-and-white resort and swimwear for Bleu by Rod Beattie, upcycled and reimagined wedding gowns for Maggie Sottero and video game-inspired looks for Blizzard Entertainment. At the end of the show, Otis Fashion Design Chair Jill Zeleznik presented the Designer of the Year award to Zhiyou Pan.
